Case Status

Harris was booked at roughly 2:30 a.m. and released on bond shortly after 8:00 a.m. the same morning.1CBS News. Why He Was Ordered Out of the Car

The obstruction count turns on what happened at the window. With a handgun visible on the dashboard, officers ordered Harris to step out, citing the immediate safety risk of a firearm within arm’s reach. Harris questioned the order, asked whether it made the officer “feel tough,” and refused to comply for several minutes, saying he did not feel safe. He eventually exited after speaking with his attorney by phone and was taken into custody.4CBS News. Bodycam Video Shows Tense Arrest of King Harris in Gwinnett County Traffic Stop

Officers cited the Supreme Court’s 1977 decision in Pennsylvania v. Mimms as their authority. In that 6–3 ruling, the Court held that police may order a driver out of a vehicle during any lawful traffic stop without violating the Fourth Amendment, calling it a “minimal and reasonable intrusion” justified by officer safety.7Fox 5 Atlanta. Prior Arrests

This was not Harris’s first run-in with police in Georgia. In 2022, he was stopped in Pickens County on speeding and DUI allegations. He failed to appear in court, a bench warrant was issued, and those charges were eventually dropped in August 2025.9Fox 5 Atlanta. King Harris Arrested in Gwinnett County
