What Police Say Happened on June 2, 2025

West Palm Beach police arrested Bickelhaupt on June 2, 2025, initially charging him with aggravated battery causing bodily harm and domestic battery.3CW34. Officers reported finding blood spatter on the comforter, sheets, pillows, headboard, baseboards, walls, and a nearby dog bed.4WPBF. Florida Chef Arrested, Accused of Viciously Beating Family Member

After the alleged attack, Nadia traveled to Palm Beach International Airport, apparently trying to buy a flight to Denver. She had a seizure at a ticket counter and was taken by fire rescue to Saint Mary’s Medical Center. Doctors admitted her with a subdural hematoma, two blackened eyes, facial swelling, dried blood under her nostrils, and bruising across her arms, shoulders, wrists, and hands. She first told police she had been in a car accident, but medical staff determined the injuries were inconsistent with that account.5Miami New Times. How the Charges Escalated

The Jail Calls That Cost Him Bond

Two days after his arrest, while Nadia was in the ICU, Bickelhaupt made recorded calls from jail to a shared phone line at the couple’s restaurant, Konro. In the first voicemail, he told Nadia to contact his public defender and say she did not want the no-contact order that had been filed. He also asked her to help post his $90,000 bond, saying, “I have nowhere to stay, nowhere to sleep. … I need your help.” About twenty minutes later he called again, adding, “I’m going to be here for a very long time if you so choose, maybe a year.” He also asked her to send him money through Zelle.7Fox 8. The October 2025 Bond Denial

In October 2025, defense attorneys asked Palm Beach County Judge Cymonie Rowe to reconsider the bond revocation. They argued the contact had been indirect because Bickelhaupt called the restaurant’s shared landline rather than Nadia herself, and that he was not stalking or threatening her. His father testified about his son’s medical condition.

Assistant State Attorney Victoria Thacker responded that Bickelhaupt clearly intended to reach his wife when he dialed the restaurant and that nothing had changed since the revocation. Judge Rowe denied the motion, saying there was “no change in circumstances to revisit the bond that was revoked.” She acknowledged the father’s health concerns but said they did not alter the analysis.9Orlando Sentinel. Nadia Bickelhaupt’s Injuries

Nadia Bickelhaupt, a Denver-born sommelier who co-owned Konro with her husband, has undergone three brain surgeries since early June 2025. An emergency procedure in early July treated a staph infection, and doctors also discovered a brain bleed. A later craniectomy removed a portion of her skull to treat the persistent infection. As of late July she still had significant swelling, pain, and an eye nearly swollen shut. She has documented the recovery through social media and a GoFundMe organized by a friend.5Miami New Times. On June 4, 2017, during a pre-service argument at the restaurant, Bickelhaupt assaulted Welsh. According to the Cook County state attorney’s complaint, he grabbed her by the hair, threw her to the ground, and struck her in the back of the head with a 750-milliliter glass bottle, causing lacerations that required two staples. He was arrested two days later on a domestic battery charge, which was later reduced to simple battery.
