How the Felony Murder Theory Works Against Him
The murder charge is being prosecuted under Arizona’s felony murder rule. Prosecutors do not need to prove Meisner personally struck Lord. They need to prove he participated in an underlying felony, such as the kidnapping or the robbery, during which the death occurred.412 News. Why He Is Still in Jail
Meisner was initially held on a $1 million bond after his March 2024 arrest.1Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. He has remained in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office since. Every other defendant in the case has been released under some set of conditions.8ABC15. The Plea Offer He Turned Down
In May 2025, prosecutors offered Meisner a deal: plead guilty to reduced charges of manslaughter and aggravated robbery in exchange for a sentence of 7 to 21 years. His attorney, Andrew Marcantel, has argued that any plea should cover only Meisner’s alleged role in the robbery of the necklace, not responsibility for Lord’s death. Marcantel has pointed to the eyewitness record, saying that of 21 people who claim to have witnessed the assault, 17 did not identify Meisner as one of the attackers.412 News. Trial Schedule
In January 2026, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sam Myers granted motions to sever the cases of Meisner and Talan Renner from the four remaining co-defendants. A Note on Preston’s Law
Governor Katie Hobbs signed House Bill 2611, known as “Preston’s Law,” in May 2025. It creates a Class 4 felony aggravated assault for “swarming,” defined as a group attack involving at least three assailants against a single victim.15AZ Central. Gov.
