Jaguar Land Rover Turbocharger Settlement: Payments and Warranty

The Land Rover turbocharger settlement resolves a class action alleging that Jaguar Land Rover North America sold certain 2.0-liter Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport, and LR2 vehicles with a defective “brazed scroll” turbocharger prone to premature failure. Under the deal, which received final approval on September 30, 2025, eligible owners and lessees can receive up to $3,750 for past turbocharger repairs and up to $12,000 for related engine damage, plus an extended warranty covering future repairs. The claim filing deadline was February 19, 2026, and has now passed, but the extended warranty benefit still matters for owners whose vehicles have not yet failed.¹

Which Vehicles Are Covered

The settlement applies to three Land Rover models fitted with the 2.0-liter engine and brazed scroll turbocharger at issue:²

Range Rover Evoque, model years 2013–2016
Discovery Sport, model years 2015–2017
LR2, model years 2013–2015

Not every vehicle within those years carries the specific turbocharger covered by the settlement. Owners can confirm eligibility by entering their VIN at turbochargersettlement.com.²

The complaint alleged the turbochargers could fail well before the end of a vehicle’s expected lifespan. When one broke down, metal debris could circulate through the oil system and damage internal engine components, sometimes causing complete engine failure.³ Despite consumer complaints, no recall was ever issued.⁴ Jaguar Land Rover did not admit wrongdoing in the settlement.⁵

Who Was Eligible

The class includes current and former owners and lessees of a covered vehicle sold or leased and registered in any U.S. state or the District of Columbia on or before September 27, 2024. Both new and used purchasers qualify, with two limits: a person who first purchased or leased the vehicle more than ten years after its original registration, or after it had already been driven more than 100,000 miles, is excluded.²

Also excluded are used-car dealers who bought vehicles for resale, vehicles with salvage titles, insurance companies that took a vehicle as a total loss, and anyone who had already settled separate claims with Jaguar Land Rover over the same issue.⁶

How Much the Settlement Pays

Class members who paid out of pocket for repairs can seek reimbursement up to two caps: $3,750 for turbocharger repair or replacement, and $12,000 for engine repair or replacement caused by turbocharger failure.²

The percentage actually reimbursed depends on the vehicle’s age and odometer reading at the time of repair. Vehicles within eight years and 80,000 miles of their in-service date qualify for 100 percent reimbursement on both turbocharger and engine work. From there:

Up to nine years and 90,000 miles: 60 percent on turbocharger repairs.
Up to ten years and 100,000 miles: 50 percent on turbocharger repairs, 30 percent on engine repairs.
Beyond ten years or 100,000 miles at the time of repair: no reimbursement.²

Any prior goodwill payments or insurance reimbursements from Jaguar Land Rover are subtracted from the eligible amount. Claimants had to submit proof the turbocharger failed, payment records for the repair, and a signed statement under penalty of perjury that the repair was not the result of a collision, vandalism, or skipped maintenance. Each individual repair required its own claim form.⁶

The Extended Warranty for Future Repairs

For qualifying vehicles that have not yet suffered a turbocharger failure, Jaguar Land Rover agreed to extend its New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover future turbocharger and related engine repairs. Coverage runs up to ten years or 100,000 miles from the original in-service date, using the same age-and-mileage tiers that govern the cash reimbursement schedule. At higher mileage or age, the dealer covers a reduced percentage rather than the full bill.⁷

To use the warranty, the owner must have the turbocharger or engine problem diagnosed at a Land Rover dealership, and the repair must be performed there as well. Repairs done at independent shops are not covered.⁷ The warranty extension takes effect automatically for qualifying vehicles once the settlement’s effective date passes, meaning after any appeal window closes.

Current Status and What Owners Can Do Now

The claim filing deadline of February 19, 2026, has passed, so new reimbursement claims for past repairs can no longer be submitted.¹ The settlement administrator, Angeion Group, LLC, is reviewing submitted claims, and no payments have been distributed yet. U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo, in the District of New Jersey, granted final approval on September 30, 2025, and her written order was filed on November 20, 2025. She found the settlement “fair, reasonable, and adequate” under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(e). One class member opted out, and objections were overruled.⁸ No appeal has been reported.⁹

The extended warranty remains the practical benefit still available to owners of covered vehicles whose turbochargers have not yet failed.
