On May 8, 2022, at about 6:30 p.m., Dailyn Ferguson was shot in the head while sitting in his parked car outside DF Kickz, the sneaker store he had opened two months earlier at 5412 Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst. More than a year passed between the shooting and the first charging document. Sales was the first suspect named, in an August 14, 2023 juvenile complaint. Because all four were minors when Ferguson was killed, the cases began in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.
