Jake Paul is facing no active lawsuit of his own making as of early 2026, but he and his promotion company, Most Valuable Promotions, have publicly threatened defamation actions against critics who called his December 2025 fight with Anthony Joshua rigged. Separately, Paul settled a $100 million defamation lawsuit filed against him by boxing promoter Eddie Hearn in March 2025. A Jake Paul lawsuit tracker at this point is really two stories: threats that have not yet become filings, and one resolved case from a different dispute.
Threatened Defamation Suits Over Rigging Claims
Anthony Joshua stopped Paul in the sixth round of their heavyweight bout on Netflix on December 19, 2025. Within days, boxing commentators and social media users accused both fighters of not competing authentically, and Paul’s camp responded by promising legal action.
Nakisa Bidarian, Paul’s business partner and co-founder of MVP, appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show on December 22, 2025, and said MVP’s lawyers were “actively going after a number of people” who had spread the claims. He called the allegations “ridiculous,” “illegal,” and “immoral.”1Daily Sabah. Paul himself posted on X that he had instructed his team to “vigorously go after anyone who makes up lies about my boxing career.” In August 2025 he hired attorney Alex Spiro, previously known for representing Elon Musk, to lead the effort.3Fox News. As of early 2026, none of these threats have translated into a filed complaint.
Who Has Been Named
Piers Morgan was singled out after calling Paul’s bouts “boring staged bulls***” during the summer of 2025. When MVP signaled Morgan could “count on” a lawsuit unless he retracted, Morgan clarified that he meant Paul was fighting “older, past-their-prime opponents” for entertainment value and that he “did not intend to suggest that the outcome was predetermined.”4The Independent. Veteran promoter Lou DiBella publicly posted that there was “nothing legit” about the Joshua fight and alleged Joshua was “pulling punches.”5Yahoo Sports. Neither the Florida State Athletic Commission, which sanctioned the fight, nor any other regulator has announced an investigation into the rigging claims.
The Eddie Hearn Defamation Lawsuit and Settlement
The only defamation case involving Paul that has actually been filed and resolved runs the other direction: Paul was the defendant. In September 2022, promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing sued Paul for $100 million in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
The suit stemmed from an interview earlier that month in which Paul accused Hearn of bribing boxing judge Glenn Feldman in connection with two fights: Katie Taylor’s April 2022 decision over Amanda Serrano, and Anthony Joshua’s August 2022 loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Paul moved to dismiss, but a federal judge denied that motion in September 2024. A settlement conference followed in December 2024, and on March 18, 2025, the parties told the court they had reached agreement. Attorneys filed for formal dismissal on March 31, 2025, with the case dismissed with prejudice and no costs or fees awarded to either side. Financial terms were not disclosed.8Ring Magazine. Other Litigation Around Paul’s Fights
A separate lawsuit tied to a Paul event names Netflix rather than Paul. Florida subscriber Ronald Denton filed a class action against Netflix over the November 2024 Paul vs. Mike Tyson broadcast, alleging the streamer was “woefully ill-prepared” for viewer demand and that subscribers experienced widespread buffering and freezing. The complaint alleges breach of contract and violations of Florida consumer protection laws, and seeks unspecified damages.10The Hollywood Reporter. Paul’s originally scheduled November 14, 2025 exhibition against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis was cancelled by MVP on November 3, days after Davis’s ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel filed a civil suit against him in Miami-Dade County court accusing him of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.11ESPN. Paul’s Earlier Legal History
Outside boxing, Paul was charged in 2020 with two misdemeanors, criminal trespass and unlawful assembly, after his presence at a protest at a Scottsdale, Arizona, mall. The FBI raided the “Team 10 House” that same year and seized illegal weapons. In 2021, after sexual assault allegations from Justine Paradise, Paul denied the claims and said he would pursue a defamation lawsuit against her, though no such filing has been publicly reported.12Berkeley Beacon. Whether any of the threatened suits against fight-rigging critics turn into actual filings is still an open question. So far the record shows one settled defamation case from an old bribery accusation, and a set of public warnings from MVP that have not yet reached a courthouse docket.
