James Euringer: Allegations, Co-Defendants, Settlement, and Aftermath

The Jimmy Urine lawsuit was a civil sexual abuse case filed in August 2021 by an anonymous woman who alleged that James Euringer, the Mindless Self Indulgence frontman known as Jimmy Urine, sexually assaulted and groomed her beginning in 1997, when she was 15 and he was 27. After nearly three years of litigation, the case settled out of court in March 2024. The terms were not disclosed.1MetalSucks. Who Filed and What She Alleged

On August 9, 2021, a plaintiff identified only as Jane Doe filed suit against Euringer in New York Supreme Court, alleging sexual battery, grooming, and molestation.2Rolling Stone. According to the complaint, Euringer told the plaintiff his conduct was not criminal, gave her a fake ID that let her travel and drink alcohol, took nude photographs of her, and directed her to perform sexual acts while imitating “a small child.”3The A.V. The Record Label Co-Defendants

The complaint named Warner Music Group, Warner Communications LLC, Elektra Entertainment Group, and Joseph Galus alongside Euringer. The plaintiff claimed those parties had the “opportunity and ability to stop Euringer’s sexual assaults, and to protect Plaintiff and others, but did not.”3The A.V. Club. How the Case Ended

The case was docketed as Jane Doe 7015 v. Elektra Entertainment Group Inc. et al., Case No. 41409962. In March 2023, Judge John P. Cronan granted a motion to dismiss all claims against the corporate defendants, finding that the allegations against Warner Music Group, Warner Communications, and Elektra Records did not meet the requirements under New York law.4Loudwire. Euringer tried to have the remaining claims against him dismissed as well. That effort failed, and the parties turned to settlement. On March 17, 2024, the plaintiff’s counsel told the court that Euringer and the plaintiff had “reached an agreement to settle this case” and were “in the process of executing, and complying with, the formal agreement.”4Loudwire. Why the Case Could Be Filed Decades Later

The conduct alleged in the complaint ended in 1999, but the suit was filed in 2021 under New York’s Child Victims Act, signed into law on February 14, 2019. The law raised the age limit for civil filings by survivors of childhood sexual abuse to 55 and opened a lookback window that suspended the statute of limitations entirely for previously time-barred claims.6New York State Senate. Senate Bill S2440 The window opened on August 13, 2019, and was extended by a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, pushing the final deadline to August 14, 2021.7New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. Where Euringer and the Band Stand Now

Euringer and Mindless Self Indulgence have been largely inactive since the allegations became public. Reporting in late 2024 described both as having remained “very quiet” throughout the case, and it was not clear whether the band would continue to perform.1MetalSucks.
