Jeff Couch’s RV Nation: Conviction, BBB Complaints, and Lawsuit

Jeff Couch’s RV Nation is a Trenton, Ohio, wholesale-to-the-public RV dealership whose owner, Jeffrey Couch, pleaded guilty in 2020 to felony aggravated assault of his wife and was sentenced to five years of community control. The dealership itself holds a B- rating with the Better Business Bureau, is not BBB accredited, and faces an active 2024 consumer lawsuit now pending in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

The 2019 Assault and 2020 Conviction

West Chester Township police arrested Couch at his home on March 2, 2019. According to the criminal complaint, he and his wife, Shelley Couch, had returned from a night of drinking and argued in the driveway. Prosecutors said Couch punched her in the face multiple times and slammed her head onto the pavement. Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser told the court the force of the assault left the imprint of her head on the asphalt in two places.¹ A neighbor made an audio recording of the incident through a bedroom window.²

A Butler County grand jury indicted Couch on March 12, 2019, on two counts of felonious assault, one count of attempted felonious assault, and one count of misdemeanor domestic violence.³ He later pleaded guilty to a single felony count of aggravated assault, and prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges.⁴

On February 24, 2020, Judge Michael Oster Jr. sentenced Couch, then 52, to five years of community control, 100 hours of community service, and a $1,500 fine. The judge ordered him to wear an electronic ankle monitor capable of detecting alcohol. Prosecutors did not seek jail time, citing his acceptance of responsibility and completion of anger management and alcohol treatment programs.²⁴

How the Dealership Sells

Jeff Couch’s RV Nation is family-owned and operates on a wholesale-to-the-public model, marketing itself as an alternative to traditional retail dealerships with lower prices on new units.⁵ The business caters to buyers nationwide and in Canada, and much of its trade runs through online sales with delivery to distant customers.⁶ That geography matters for anyone weighing the complaint record below.

Complaint Patterns at the BBB

Jeff Couch’s Campers, LLC holds a B- rating with the Better Business Bureau and is not accredited. The BBB attributes the rating primarily to the business’s failure to respond to four of the seven complaints filed over a three-year window. Of those seven, four involved product issues, two involved service or repair problems, and one was a billing dispute. Only one was marked resolved by the consumer.⁷ Customer reviews average one star out of five across six reviews.⁸

The recurring themes across those complaints and reviews:

Defective units at delivery, including loose or missing screws, damaged undercarriages, faulty wiring, broken stabilizers, leaking roofs, and nonfunctioning furnaces and water heaters.
Warranty and repair disputes, with long waits, poor communication, and situations in which the dealership’s delays in processing paperwork led manufacturers to deny claims filed while units were still under warranty.
Sales practices, including allegations of bait-and-switch financing and unauthorized hard credit inquiries despite assurances of cash transactions.
Unresponsive management, with customers reporting dismissive or hostile responses when they pressed on unresolved defects.

Added Risk for Out-of-State Buyers

Because the wholesale pricing draws buyers from hundreds of miles away, many cannot easily return for service, and the complaint record shows problems that a hands-on pre-delivery inspection might have caught: plumbing failures, cracked wiring harnesses, and structural issues on shipped units.⁷

One buyer reported that less than two miles into transport, lug nuts on the trailer snapped, the tire separated from the hub, and the undercarriage damage cost nearly $2,000 in emergency towing and repairs. When disputes arose over transit damage or defective equipment, customers said the dealership shifted responsibility to the manufacturer, the transport company, or a third-party inspector rather than assisting directly.⁷

The DiFranco Lawsuit

In 2024, Alischa M. and Nolan R. DiFranco sued Jeff Couch’s RV Nation, Jeff Couch’s Campers LLC, employees Clayton Baker and Kyle Taylor, and manufacturer Heartland Recreational Vehicles. The case was filed in Butler County Common Pleas Court and cited claims under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.⁹

Heartland removed the case to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in September 2024. On May 20, 2025, Judge Matthew W. McFarland granted the plaintiffs’ motion to send the case back to Butler County state court and dismissed all claims against Heartland without prejudice, along with two counts of the amended complaint. The remaining claims against the dealership, its LLC, Baker, and Taylor are proceeding in state court.⁹
