Jeremy Dewitte: Charges, Convictions, and Current Status

Jeremy Dewitte is a Central Florida man and registered sex offender who ran an Orlando funeral-escort company called Metro State Special Services and built a two-decade record of convictions for impersonating police officers, insurance fraud, federal tax fraud, and repeated failures to comply with Florida’s sex offender registration laws. Born February 10, 1980, he is currently incarcerated in the Florida Department of Corrections under inmate number X17706.¹

The 2005 Sex Offense and Registration Status

Dewitte’s record begins with a 2005 Orange County conviction for lewd and lascivious battery on a victim between 12 and 15 years old, charged under Florida Statute 800.04(4)(a).¹ That conviction made him a registered sexual offender in Florida and barred him from carrying concealed weapons.² The impersonation pattern is even older: state records show he was sentenced to nearly two years in state prison in 2003 for impersonating law enforcement.³

Metro State Special Services and Police Impersonation

Dewitte operated Metro State Special Services, which marketed itself as an “elite motorcade protection detail” and was hired to escort funeral processions across Central Florida.⁴ The fleet used motorcycles and SUVs fitted with purple and amber lights. Florida law allows non-law-enforcement funeral escorts to use amber or purple flashing lights during a procession, but it does not authorize sirens or traffic stops.⁵

Windermere Police Chief David Ogden said Dewitte was found during traffic stops carrying handcuffs, a badge, pepper spray, a bulletproof vest, and a firearm. According to Ogden, the company used sirens, performed unauthorized traffic stops, and shut down major roads including Interstate 95 in Volusia County for private escorts. Ogden said Dewitte appeared to know he was breaking the law, instructing staff to disable sirens or stop certain behaviors when real officers were nearby.⁴

Body camera footage seized during a September 2019 Windermere arrest captured Dewitte riding a motorcycle at high speed, weaving through traffic, crossing center lines, and shouting at drivers. In one recording he told a motorist, “Get the [expletive] over before you find out.” When the driver accused him of pretending to be a police officer, he replied, “I know what I’m allowed to do and what I’m not allowed to do.”⁶ In a separate incident his crew blocked an intersection and one member slapped the car of an off-duty deputy; Dewitte placed his hand on his gun holster in a threatening manner.⁴

He was ultimately convicted of impersonating a police officer and served about 15 months of an 18-month sentence, with release in late summer 2022.⁷

Insurance Fraud Conviction

In January 2023, Dewitte was arrested on a slate of fraud charges after a Florida Department of Financial Services investigation. The probe opened after he posted a video online admitting he did not have a commercial motor vehicle license for the escort fleet. Investigators reviewing his insurance history identified three fraudulent claims, including one tied to a vehicle crash he had deliberately staged to collect insurance money.⁸

The charges included two counts of filing false and fraudulent motor vehicle insurance applications, two counts of filing false insurance claims under $20,000, two counts of communications fraud over $300, staging a crash, a scheme to defraud under $20,000, and depositing a check with intent to defraud. He was also charged with failing to register an insurance vehicle as required by sex offender statutes.⁸ Dewitte accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to five and a half years in prison, followed by probation.⁹

Sex Offender Registration Violations

Under Florida Statute 943.0435, registered sex offenders must notify the sheriff’s office of changes such as new vehicles and addresses within strict time frames. Dewitte has been convicted of violating those requirements repeatedly, in both Orange and Osceola Counties, over more than six years.

February 2019: failure to comply with sex offender registration, Orange County (Case 1804906).
August 2021: failure to notify the sheriff, Osceola County (Case 2003570).
September 2021: failure to notify the sheriff, Orange County (Case 2004466).
November 2024: failure to notify the sheriff, Osceola County (Case 2203688).
February 2025: failure to notify the sheriff, Orange County (Case 2400990).
September 2025: failure to notify the sheriff, Orange County (Case 2300843).¹

In November 2024, an Osceola County jury convicted him of one such violation for failing to register a vehicle in 2022. The charge carried a five-year maximum, but the judge imposed a seven-year sentence citing his extensive prior record, including the 2005 sex offense.¹⁰

Federal Tax Fraud

Alongside the state cases, Dewitte was indicted in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida in March 2024 on two counts of tax fraud (Case No. 6:24-cr-00074). He pleaded not guilty at his initial appearance in August 2024 before Magistrate Judge Embry J. Kidd, then changed his plea to guilty on September 25, 2024. Judge Julie S. Sneed accepted the guilty plea and entered adjudication of guilt on both counts on October 15, 2024. The case was terminated in January 2025.¹¹

Where He Is Now

As of 2026, Dewitte remains in Florida Department of Corrections custody under inmate number X17706, with new convictions still being added; the most recent recorded is a September 2025 failure-to-notify conviction in Orange County.¹

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s sex offender registry lists him under several aliases, including Brett Eldon Solomon, Brett E. Solomon, Jay Dewitte, Jeremy Omar Charles Dewitte, and Jeremy Charles Dewitte-Vogt.¹
