Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio, whose legal name was Charles Jones II, was killed by five people tied to a rival Jacksonville gang faction who tracked him to Tampa and ambushed him outside a Holiday Inn on June 23, 2024, hours into his 26th birthday celebration. The three gunmen were Rashad Murphy, Davion Murphy, and Sean Gathright. Isaiah Chance and Alicia Andrews acted as scouts, following Jones around Tampa through the night. By June 2026, all five had been convicted: the four men received life in prison without parole for first-degree murder, and Andrews was sentenced to 15 years for manslaughter.
The Five People Convicted
Prosecutors identified Rashad Murphy, 30, and Davion Murphy, 27, as documented members or associates of the Jacksonville gang known as 1200. Gathright, 18, was the third shooter. The three fired a handgun and two rifles from a vehicle that pulled into the hotel parking lot at roughly 4:38 a.m., leaving 31 shell casings on the ground.1Fox 13 News. Chance, 21, and his girlfriend Andrews, 21, were accused of scouting. Prosecutors said Andrews’s car and phone were used to shadow Jones across Tampa because she was not a gang member and would attract less suspicion. Andrews later denied knowing about any plan to kill him.3Court TV. FL v. Alicia Andrews — Rapper Ambush Murder Trial
Investigators determined that all five traveled from Jacksonville to Tampa together on June 22, 2024, in two separate vehicles. Tampa State Attorney Susan Lopez said at the time of the arrests that the group “all had one purpose in coming to Tampa, and that was to kill.”4NBC News. 3 Suspects Arrested, Charged in Killing of Florida Rapper Foolio
The Gang Feud That Drove the Killing
Jones was a documented member of the Jacksonville gang 6 Block. His killers came out of a feud spanning more than a decade between 6 Block on one side and two allied rivals on the other: ATK, or Ace’s Top Killers, named after Jacksonville rapper Yungeen Ace, and 1200. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has said the conflict has produced “dozens of murders by and against both sides.”4NBC News. 3 Suspects Arrested, Charged in Killing of Florida Rapper Foolio
The two sides have traded taunts in drill rap songs and on social media, and police have cited those tracks as direct motives for retaliatory shootings.5News4Jax. After a 2018 shooting at Jacksonville’s St. Johns Town Center killed three people and wounded Yungeen Ace, Jones glorified the deaths online and sold a T-shirt featuring one of the victims under the caption “Rest in piss.”6Jacksonville.com. He had also been shot at before. In November 2021, a bullet grazed him at a Jacksonville recording studio, and he responded on Instagram by mocking the shooters for missing “a whole 100 shots literally.”6Jacksonville.com. How They Found Him That Night
Jones made himself easy to follow. He was hosting a pool party at a Tampa Airbnb on the night of June 22, 2024, and documenting it on Instagram. Police arrived and made the group leave for exceeding occupancy limits, and Jones posted that officers had “kicked them out.”8Fox 13 News. 1 Dead, 3 Hospitalized After Shooting at Tampa Holiday Inn Near USF He then moved the group to a Holiday Inn on McKinley Drive near the University of South Florida.9The New York Times. Prosecutors argued the group used those same posts to track him. Chance and Andrews shadowed Jones in Andrews’s car while the three gunmen waited. The ambush came in the hotel parking lot shortly before 4:40 a.m. Jones was struck in the upper chest, right arm, and back, with one bullet passing through his lung, heart, and aorta. Convictions and Sentences
Andrews was tried first and alone, in Hillsborough County in October 2025. She took the stand and described Chance as controlling and abusive, saying he monitored her phones and clothing and once “beat me for 20 minutes.” She said she believed the Tampa trip was a reconciliation with her boyfriend and had no knowledge of a plan to kill Jones.3Court TV. Her defense pointed to gaps in the state’s case. Detective Juan Ramos acknowledged there was “no direct evidence of Andrews’ knowledge of a plot to kill Jones,” and prosecutors conceded she was not a gang member. The jury acquitted her of first-degree murder and conspiracy on October 31, 2025, convicting her only of the lesser offense of manslaughter.12Fox 13 News. Chance, Gathright, and the two Murphys were tried together in Hillsborough County in the spring of 2026. Each was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Judge Sisco formally imposed those sentences on June 22, 2026, two years to the day after the ambush. Chance told the courtroom that gang violence and retaliation “ain’t worth it.” Davion Murphy urged his generation to “do something productive because prison is not worth it.” Gathright said he had grown up with “a loving family, nice home, multiple opportunities, and promising potential.”15Fox 13 News.
