Kodak Black Arrested in Orlando: MDMA Trafficking and Fleeing Charges

Rapper Kodak Black, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was arrested twice in May 2026 in two Florida counties. On May 6, he surrendered in Orange County on a first-degree felony charge of trafficking MDMA tied to a November 2025 incident in Orlando. Eight days later, on May 14, he turned himself in to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on charges of fleeing law enforcement and resisting an officer without violence, stemming from a February 2026 traffic stop in Pompano Beach. He posted bond in both cases and is currently free while the charges are pending.1WPLG Local 10. Rapper Kodak Black Arrested in Orange County on Drug Trafficking Charge2WSVN. What Happened in Orlando

The trafficking charge traces back to the night of November 24, 2025. Orlando police responded to a 911 call about gunshots near the Children’s Safety Village on Fairvilla Road and found a group gathered around a BMW SUV and a Lamborghini SUV.3ABC News. Rapper Kodak Black Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charge Officers searched the vehicles. In the BMW they reported the smell of burnt cannabis, some cannabis, and a pink pill that tested positive for MDMA. In the Lamborghini, they said they recovered roughly $37,000 in cash, documents bearing Kapri’s name, and a bag containing a substance later confirmed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to be about 25 grams of MDMA.1WPLG Local 10. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, investigators matched items found in the vehicle to photos previously posted on Kapri’s Instagram, including a distinctive pink bag and a lighter. Kapri and others at the scene initially denied owning the bag, but the affidavit says Kapri later asked for the $37,000 back, saying the money belonged to his business.4NBC Miami. The FDLE lab result came back on April 17, 2026. Police obtained an arrest warrant, and Kapri flew in from California for a coordinated surrender on May 6. He was booked into the Orange County Jail on a charge of trafficking more than 10 grams and less than 200 grams of MDMA, a first-degree felony under Florida law.5Los Angeles Times. Bond and Sentencing Exposure

Kapri appeared before a judge on May 7, 2026, entered a written plea of not guilty, and requested a jury trial. The judge set bond at $75,000, citing a record that included 12 prior felony convictions, two misdemeanors, and one failure to appear. The court ordered no contact with co-defendants or witnesses, with exceptions for family members and members of his security staff. Kapri posted bond and was released from the Orange County Jail that evening.4NBC Miami. Kodak Black Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charge in Orange County6CBS 12. The charge carries significant mandatory penalties. Under Florida Statute 893.135, trafficking MDMA in the 10-to-200-gram range triggers a mandatory minimum of three years in prison and a $50,000 fine. Judges cannot suspend or defer the sentence, and defendants are ineligible for parole or early release absent a pardon, executive clemency, or a state attorney’s motion recognizing substantial cooperation.7Florida Senate. What the Defense Is Arguing

Kapri’s longtime attorney, Bradford Cohen, has challenged the case publicly. He called the arrest a “coordinated surrender” and said it involved “another case that should have never been filed.”5Los Angeles Times. Cohen has also disputed the physical evidence. Police said a fingerprint of Kapri’s was found on a prescription cough syrup bottle inside the bag; Cohen said the bottle actually yielded “no usable” prints and that handling a legally prescribed medication would not establish possession of the bag’s other contents.9Rolling Stone. The Pompano Beach Case

Just over a week after posting bond in Orlando, Kapri turned himself in to Broward deputies on May 14, 2026. The charges are fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, a third-degree felony, and resisting an officer without violence, a misdemeanor. Both stem from an incident on February 27, 2026.2WSVN. Rapper Kodak Black Arrested Again on Charges Tied to Fleeing Pompano Beach Traffic Stop

According to the arrest affidavit, Broward deputies tried to pull over a pink Jeep Grand Cherokee for obstructing traffic near Northwest 18th Drive and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Kapri initially stepped out. Several armed men then arrived in an SUV and a minivan, approached the deputies, and refused to step back. One identified himself as Kapri’s security. In the confusion, Kapri got back into the Jeep and drove away. Investigators later identified him through DMV records, prior familiarity, and an Instagram story showing him in the same San Antonio Spurs jersey officers had seen during the stop.12Billboard. Hours later the same pink Jeep was pulled over near Interstate 95, this time driven by an unidentified person who claimed to have been the driver during the earlier stop. Officers said they recovered 16 grams of oxycodone, three grams of cannabis, more than $26,000 in cash, and several pieces of high-end jewelry. Cohen described the armed men from the earlier stop as Kapri’s licensed security team.12Billboard. Kodak Black Arrested Fleeing Law Enforcement Traffic Stop

Bond in the Broward case was set at $3,500 total: $2,500 for fleeing and $1,000 for resisting. Kapri posted it and was released on May 15, 2026. A judge ordered him not to possess firearms or ammunition.13CBS News Miami. Rapper Kodak Black Arrested in Broward County

Where the Cases Stand

As of mid-May 2026, Kapri is out on bond in both new cases. The MDMA trafficking charge is pending in Orange County Circuit Court, where he has pleaded not guilty and asked for a jury trial. The Broward fleeing and resisting charges are also pending.4NBC Miami. Kodak Black Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charge in Orange County

He also has an unresolved 2022 oxycodone trafficking case in Broward County, filed after officers reported finding 31 oxycodone tablets during a Fort Lauderdale traffic stop. He pleaded not guilty, and the case remained open as of the most recent reporting.14USA Today. Kodak Black Released From Jail, Drug Possession Charge Dismissed

His older federal firearms case is not part of the current picture. Kapri was sentenced to 46 months in November 2019 for making false statements on ATF background-check forms while buying handguns in Hialeah. President Donald Trump commuted the remainder of that sentence in January 2021. In February 2024, U.S. District Judge Jose Martinez terminated Kapri’s federal supervised release, formally closing the federal matter.15U.S. Department of Justice.
