Where the Case Stands Now

Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, the court-appointed administrator, is reviewing and processing filed claims while the ruling is pending. Even once the court grants final approval, any appeals would need to be resolved before money can move to class members. What the Settlement Covers

The $177 million resolves claims from two separate incidents AT&T disclosed in 2024. Both funds are non-reversionary, meaning unclaimed money will not return to AT&T.

The first, larger fund of $149 million covers the March 2024 dark web breach. AT&T confirmed that data on roughly 73 million current and former account holders had surfaced online, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and account passcodes.4AT&T. The second fund of $28 million covers the July 2024 Snowflake breach. Hackers downloaded call and text records from an AT&T workspace on cloud platform Snowflake, affecting nearly all AT&T cellular customers — around 110 million people — for interactions from May through October 2022 and a smaller set from January 2, 2023.6Cybersecurity Dive. Who Was Eligible and What Claimants Can Receive

Not every AT&T customer qualifies. Eligibility depends on whether a person’s data was actually caught up in one or both breaches.

  • The AT&T 2 class covers AT&T account owners, authorized line users, and end users, including customers of mobile virtual network operators that use AT&T’s network, whose telephone numbers or related interaction data were part of the July 2024 incident.9Telecom Data Settlement. The settlement provides cash only. It does not include credit monitoring or other non-monetary benefits. Payouts fall into two categories.

Documented loss payments. Class members who can show financial losses “fairly traceable” to a breach may claim reimbursement up to a cap: $5,000 for AT&T 1 losses occurring in 2019 or later, $2,500 for AT&T 2 losses on or after April 14, 2024, and up to $7,500 total for overlap members who have qualifying losses under both, using different documentation for each claim.1Telecom Data Settlement. Tier cash payments. Class members who don’t file documented-loss claims receive a pro rata share of whatever remains in each fund after administrative costs, attorneys’ fees, and documented-loss payouts. Tier 1 (AT&T 1 members whose Social Security numbers were exposed) receives five times the payout of Tier 2 (other AT&T 1 members). Tier 3 is available to account owners in the AT&T 2 class. The Deadlines Have Passed
