Why Payments Have Not Started
Three things have to happen before Kroll can send checks. The court has to grant final approval. The window to appeal that approval has to close. And all submitted claims have to be reviewed.1Telecom Data Settlement. AT&T Data Incident Settlement
Only the third is in progress. Judge Brown held the final approval hearing on January 15, 2026, after rescheduling it from the original December 3, 2025 date.2U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas. There is already appellate activity in the background. Three individuals who opposed preliminary approval, Osa Massen, Audrey Jones, and Susan Savala, filed an interlocutory appeal on July 21, 2025 after Judge Brown denied their motion to intervene. What Approved Claimants Will Receive
The settlement splits $177 million into two non-reversionary cash funds tied to the two 2024 breaches: $149 million for the March 2024 dark web data leak and $28 million for the July 2024 Snowflake incident involving call and text metadata.4CCH. AT&T Settlement Agreement
Class members can take either a tiered pro rata payment or a documented loss payment:
- Tier 1, for people whose Social Security numbers were exposed in the March 2024 breach, pays a pro rata share of the $149 million net fund at five times the Tier 2 rate.
- Tier 2, for people whose March 2024 data was exposed but whose Social Security numbers were not, pays a smaller pro rata share of the same fund.
- Tier 3, for AT&T account owners and line users caught in the July 2024 Snowflake incident, pays a pro rata share of the $28 million net fund.4CCH. AT&T Settlement Agreement
The documented loss option pays up to $5,000 for March 2024 breach losses traceable to the incident from 2019 onward, and up to $2,500 for July 2024 breach losses on or after April 14, 2024. Members who qualify under both breaches can claim under both, with combined documented losses capped at $7,500, and must submit separate documentation for each.4CCH. Exact per-person amounts for the pro rata tiers are not yet known. Those figures depend on how many valid claims Kroll ends up approving and how much is deducted from each fund for administration, taxes, and attorney fees.5NBC DFW. The Attorney Fee Request Still Pending
Class counsel are asking for about $59 million in fees, roughly a third of the total settlement. The Lanier Law Firm team, which led the March 2024 breach case, requested $49.67 million in fees plus up to $564,792 in costs. The Kopelowitz Ostrow team, which handled the Snowflake case, requested $9.33 million plus up to $231,438 in costs.7New Haven Register. Deadlines Have All Passed
If you did not act before the end of 2025, the settlement is closed to you. The claim deadline was December 18, 2025.1Telecom Data Settlement.
