The Krystal Farmer case is a Genesee County, Michigan prosecution in which a 27-year-old mother faces seven felony charges after her two young sons with special needs, ages 3 and 5, were found alone in a filthy Flint Township home in February 2026 after being left without adult supervision for roughly five days. The other was trying to eat raw, spoiled meat pulled from a trash can. Police said at least one child was covered in feces and one was naked.2People. Mom Accused of Abandoning Kids for Days
A couch blocked the front door. Trash covered the floors deeply enough that officers could not take normal steps. Feces were smeared on bathroom walls and along the hallway at a child’s height. A running faucet had flooded a sink onto the floor. There was no edible food, no clean clothing, and no phone or device the children could have used to call for help.3WXYZ Detroit. 2 Kids Found Abandoned in Filthy Conditions in Flint Township Home4Click On Detroit. What Farmer Faces If Convicted
Under Michigan’s child abandonment statute, each abandonment count carries one to three years in a state correctional facility.10Michigan Legislature. MCL 750.161 – Abandonment of Children Each second-degree child abuse count carries a maximum of 10 years for a first offense, rising to 20 years if the defendant has a prior conviction for a substantially similar offense.11Michigan Legislature. MCL 750.136b – Child Abuse
The abandonment statute also permits a court to impose probation instead of incarceration if the defendant enters a bond guaranteeing shelter, food, and care for the children. Whether that option is on the table here is up to the judge.
