What Happened Outside the Eastpointe Foot Locker
Around 2:50 p.m. on May 3, 2025, Lakylia Taylor arrived at the Foot Locker at Kelly Road and Eight Mile Road with her brother Dejuan Taylor, then 22, and two female cousins. Tyjaune Pierre Morris-Turner got out of a Jeep Compass and put a handgun to Dejuan Taylor’s side. The two fought, and a shot from Morris-Turner’s gun hit Dejuan Taylor in the shoulder. Steven Edward Gardin Jr. and Juvan Maurice Newman joined the attack, and Dejuan Taylor was reportedly overpowered and on the ground being beaten.1WDIV-TV (ClickOnDetroit). Lakylia Taylor ran roughly 60 to 70 feet to the trunk of a Nissan, retrieved an unregistered Glock, went back to the fight, and fired 11 shots into the group. Gardin and Newman died. Morris-Turner was severely wounded. Prosecutors say Dejuan Taylor then picked up Morris-Turner’s gun and several magazines from the ground, and both siblings fled the scene in Lakylia Taylor’s car.3Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. The Charges Against Lakylia Taylor

- Second-degree murder for the deaths of Gardin and Newman.
- Assault with intent to murder for the shooting of Morris-Turner.

Bond Reduction and Release
Taylor spent nearly five months in the Macomb County Jail before Circuit Judge Anthony Servitto reduced her bond on September 25, 2025 from $2.5 million to $250,000, cash or surety with no 10 percent option.8Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. The reduction came over the strong objection of the prosecutor’s office. Lucido said the charges “reflect dangerous conduct” and the office would “continue to pursue this case vigorously.”9Macomb Daily. Her Brother’s Case
Dejuan Taylor was initially charged with four offenses. In October 2025, a judge dismissed the carrying a concealed weapon and larceny of a firearm counts after finding insufficient evidence he had actually taken a gun.2Macomb Daily.
