Lauren Wambles Murder Case: Plea Deal, Sentence, and Testimony

The Lauren Wambles murder case ended with the former adult film performer, who worked under the stage name Aubrey Gold, pleading no contest to accessory after the fact to second-degree murder with a firearm for her role in the July 4, 2020, killing of 51-year-old Raul Ambriz Guillen in Holmes County, Florida. On October 18, 2021, Circuit Judge Timothy Register sentenced her to ten years in prison followed by five years of felony probation. In exchange, she agreed to testify for the state against her two co-defendants.¹

Her Role in the Killing

Guillen, a father who had recently lost his job and was staying with friends across the Florida-Alabama line, was lured to the Graceville, Florida, home of Jeremie Odell Peters on the pretense that work was waiting for him. Peters had become convinced Guillen was tied to a Mexican cartel and a threat to his drug operation. Investigators found no evidence Guillen was involved in drug trafficking.²

While Guillen was outside shooting off fireworks that evening, William Shane Parker walked up behind him and shot him in the back of the head, the fireworks masking the sound. Parker and Peters buried the body in a shallow grave in a remote logging area of Holmes County.³

Wambles, then 23 or 24, was Parker’s girlfriend and pregnant with his child. After the killing, she arranged to have Guillen’s car towed to a mechanic shop in Houston County, Alabama, which later became a key thread for investigators tracing Guillen’s movements.² She initially resisted speaking with authorities but eventually confessed, confirming that Parker had shot Guillen and telling investigators Parker had dumped the murder weapon in a storm drain in that same county. The handle of the revolver was later recovered from that location.

The Plea Deal and Sentence

Wambles was originally charged as a principal to murder after her August 2020 arrest.⁴ The 14th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, under State Attorney Larry Basford, later reduced the charge as part of a plea agreement. On October 6, 2021, she entered her no contest plea to one count of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder with a firearm.⁵

Twelve days later, Judge Register imposed the ten-year prison term plus five years of felony probation. Holmes County Sheriff John Tate summarized the motive behind the killing as coming down to “drugs and money.”¹

Testimony Against Her Co-Defendants

The plea required Wambles to testify at the trials of both Peters and Parker. At Parker’s trial in March 2022, she told the jury the plan had been to draw Guillen to Peters’s house with the promise of a job. She described hearing the gunshot and seeing Guillen fall. Asked who fired, she identified Parker: “He shot him in the back of the head,” clarifying the shooter was “Shane.”⁶

She testified that Parker then poured a pot of dirt into Guillen’s mouth and nose while he was still making sounds, and that the body was placed in a shallow hole.⁷ Trial testimony also described Parker beating the victim with a shovel after the shot.⁸

How Her Sentence Compared to the Others

The three people charged in Guillen’s death received sharply different outcomes.

William Shane Parker, the shooter, was found guilty by a Holmes County jury on March 22, 2022, of second-degree murder with a firearm and tampering with evidence. Chief Circuit Judge Christopher Patterson sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus a consecutive five-year term for the tampering count.³
Jeremie Odell Peters, whose home was the site of the killing, was found guilty on June 24, 2021, of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder with a firearm and conspiracy to commit first-degree tampering with a witness. He was sentenced to 20 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.⁹
Wambles received 10 years and five years of probation for the same accessory charge as Peters, the reduction reflecting her cooperation.¹⁰

Who Lauren Wambles Was Before the Case

Wambles performed in adult films under the name Aubrey Gold between 2015 and 2018, appearing in 31 films primarily distributed through online subscription services. That career drew heavy media attention to her arrest.¹¹ By the time she was arrested in August 2020, she had been arrested at least six times since 2018 and was awaiting trial on a separate felony drug possession charge. She and Parker were living together in the Dothan, Alabama, area.¹²
