Leslie Odom Sr. filed the complaint on January 21, 2025. It lists four causes of action: breach of contract, promissory estoppel, conversion, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.2Trellis Law. The Alleged Broken Promises
The complaint describes a pattern that plays out across three states over about six years.
In November 2018, according to the suit, Odom Jr. told his father he wanted to buy him a home to “repay him for being a great father.” The actor purchased a house in Wyncote, a Philadelphia suburb, and handed his father the keys. Believing the home was his, the elder Odom sold his longtime Philadelphia residence in April 2019. Also in March 2019, the complaint says, Odom Jr. asked his father to move to Los Angeles to help care for the actor’s children and again promised to buy him a home. Instead, the elder Odom was placed in a rental and, according to the suit, was told to “deflect” questions about who owned the property. After a June 2024 dispute, the elder Odom alleges he was relocated to South Carolina with another promise of a home purchase that never materialized in his name.1Los Angeles Times. Other Conduct Alleged
The complaint accuses Odom Jr. of using “intimidation tactics” against his father. Those allegedly included having attorneys threaten legal action against him, cutting off his contact with his grandchildren, and hacking into his online accounts. In a statement to the Los Angeles Times on January 24, 2025, Odom Jr. denied the allegations and said he had provided “years of extensive financial support” to his father. A Separate Eviction Fight in South Carolina
The dispute widened in late 2025. Odom Jr. moved to evict his father from the Graniteville house, and an eviction notice citing trespassing was served on October 24, 2025. A non-jury trial before Judge Donna Williamson took place on December 19, 2025, at Midland Valley Magistrate Court. Yvette Odom testified by video that her husband had asked her to leave in April or May 2025. The Los Angeles lawsuit is still in its pretrial phase. After an April 30, 2026 case management conference, Judge Harry Jay Ford III set a jury trial for February 7, 2028, at the Santa Monica Courthouse, with a final status conference on January 25, 2028.
