Lil Travieso Death: Cold Case Status and How to Submit a Tip

No one has been held legally responsible for the death of Lil Travieso. Santiago Calleros III, the 19-year-old Colorado Springs rapper who performed under that name, was fatally shot on July 6, 2022, and as of mid-2025 no arrests have been made, no suspects have been publicly named, and no charges have been filed. The case is an open, unsolved homicide. A $10,000 reward remains available for information leading to an arrest.

What Happened on July 6, 2022

At about 10:47 p.m. that night, Colorado Springs police responded to a report of a shooting at the El Morro Mobile Home Park on the 3600 block of El Morro Road. Officers found Calleros with at least one gunshot wound. He received immediate aid from officers and paramedics but died at the scene.1City of Colorado Springs. Calleros had been building a following as a rapper in Colorado Springs, particularly among Hispanic listeners, and his music drew on personal experience.

Where the Investigation Stands

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes unit has handled the case since the night of the shooting. Three years later, detectives have not publicly identified a suspect, no one has been taken into custody, and no charges of any kind have been filed. Because there has been no arrest, there has been no trial, plea, verdict, or sentence.1City of Colorado Springs. Update Homicide Investigation in the 3600 Block of El Morro Road

Santiago Calleros Sr., the victim’s father, has kept the case in public view. In mid-2025, he worked with Pikes Peak Crime Stoppers to reinstate the $10,000 reward, timed to the third annual memorial cruise honoring his son.

Cold Case Status

Colorado Springs police classify a case as cold once it has gone unsolved for more than a year, so this investigation has carried that designation since mid-2023 at the latest.2City of Colorado Springs. Cold Cases

Cold does not mean abandoned. It means the initial leads have been exhausted and detectives are waiting for new information. Colorado law also provides a statewide backstop: the Cold Case Homicide Team at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Any homicide that remains open for more than three years and was committed after 1970 must be entered into a statewide cold case database, and local agencies are required to share the relevant case information. A family member of a homicide victim can ask local law enforcement to request help from the state team.3Justia Law. Colorado Revised Statutes Title 24 – Section 24-33.5-425 – Cold Case Homicide Team

The Calleros case passed the three-year threshold in July 2025, making it eligible for both the state database and that assistance.

No Deadline for Murder Charges

Colorado sets no statute of limitations on murder. A suspect could be arrested and prosecuted ten, twenty, or forty years from now. The same rule applies to attempts, conspiracy, or solicitation to commit murder.4Colorado General Assembly. Issue Brief on Statutes of Limitations for Criminal Offenses

Cold homicides do get solved. Forensic advances, new witness cooperation, and tips from people whose circumstances have changed all contribute to late arrests. The absence of charges now does not foreclose charges later.

The Civil Window Has Closed

Criminal prosecution is not the only path to legal responsibility. Colorado also allows a victim’s family to file a civil wrongful death lawsuit, but most such claims must be filed within two years of the date of death.5FindLaw. Colorado Revised Statutes Title 13 – Section 13-80-102

Because Calleros died on July 6, 2022, that window closed around July 2024. A civil claim against a shooter would require knowing who fired the shot, and no suspect has ever been identified. A separate theory of liability against the mobile home park for negligent security would have faced the same two-year deadline. The practical result is that even if someone is eventually arrested, the family’s ability to pursue civil damages has almost certainly expired. Criminal charges remain the realistic path to accountability.
