Chen’s right hand was extremely swollen and purple. He had blood on his clothing, legs, arms, and hands, and scratches on his arm. Both Chen and Yu worked as software engineers at Google. Yu, also 27, had worked at Amazon before joining the company.5KRON4. The Charge and Where the Case Stands
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office filed a felony complaint on January 18, 2024, charging Chen with one count of murder under California Penal Code Section 187(a). Listing agent Sylvia Tian said she left the killing out of the public listing, which described the home’s “fairy tale-esque high pitched roof” and its proximity to Apple Park, but disclosed it to the buyers as required by California law.
