Lockton Data Settlement: Eligibility, Payments, and Credit Monitoring

The Lockton data breach settlement is a $9.9 million class action resolving claims that Lockton Companies and its Southeast Series failed to protect personal information exposed in a November 2024 intrusion affecting roughly 1.1 million current and former employees of Lockton and its subsidiaries. A Missouri state court granted final approval on May 7, 2026, and the settlement administrator is scheduled to begin issuing payments about 90 days later, assuming no appeals.

Who the Settlement Covers

The class includes all living U.S. residents who received a breach notification from Lockton about the November 2024 incident. Notice was sent by postcard and email. People who timely opted out, along with Lockton’s officers and directors, are excluded.

If you received a notice, you are a class member even if you did not file a claim for cash. The free credit monitoring benefit is available to the full class.

What Class Members Receive

The $9.9 million fund is split into two pools. A $3 million pool pays documented out-of-pocket losses. The remaining $5.9 million forms a common settlement fund that covers attorney fees, administration costs, service awards, credit monitoring, and pro rata cash payments to class members who chose that option.

Claimants had to pick one of two payment options, not both:

  • Cash Payment A reimbursed up to $5,000 per person for unreimbursed, documented expenses traceable to the breach, including fraud losses, identity theft costs, credit repair fees, and credit-freezing charges. Third-party documentation was required. If total valid claims exceed the $3 million pool, payments are cut proportionally.
  • Cash Payment B provided a flat, equal pro rata share of whatever remained in the common settlement fund after fees, costs, service awards, and monitoring were deducted. No proof of specific losses was required beyond a valid claim form.

Attorney fees of up to roughly $2.97 million (about one-third of the common fund) and service awards of up to $2,500 for each named plaintiff come out of the common fund before pro rata shares are calculated.

Free Credit Monitoring for Every Class Member

Separate from the cash options, every class member is entitled to one free year of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, whether or not they filed a cash claim. The service includes single-bureau credit monitoring, financial account monitoring, credit score tracking, identity monitoring, and $1 million in identity theft insurance with no deductible.

Enrollment requires the activation code included in the original breach notice. The deadline to activate is November 4, 2026. If you still have your notice, that code is the only way to turn the benefit on.

When Payments Arrive

Final approval was entered on May 7, 2026. Kroll Settlement Administration LLC is scheduled to start issuing payments roughly 90 days after that date, provided no appeals delay distribution. Payment method and exact timing depend on what each claimant selected on the claim form and on how quickly deficiencies, if any, are resolved.

The claim filing deadline was April 7, 2026, and no new claims are being accepted. Claimants who submitted incomplete forms can still use the deficiency cure form posted on the official settlement website.

What the Breach Involved

Lockton discovered on November 20, 2024 that an unauthorized party had accessed a single employee account and computer on its network. The intruder obtained files containing full names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical information, and health insurance details. Lockton reported the incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights on February 28, 2025, listing 1,124,727 affected individuals, and also notified state attorneys general. Lockton has denied wrongdoing and maintains no laws were violated.

The consolidated case, Beasley v. Southeast Series of Lockton Companies, LLC, et al., was filed in the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri, on November 3, 2025, after earlier federal cases were dismissed.
