Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax: Career, Allegations, and Murder-Suicide

Justin Fairfax was a Virginia lawyer and Democratic politician who served as the 41st lieutenant governor of Virginia from January 2018 to January 2022, becoming only the second African American elected to statewide office in the Commonwealth. His career was upended in 2019 by sexual assault allegations from two women, which he denied, and he lost a 2021 bid for governor. On April 16, 2026, he shot and killed his estranged wife, Dr. Cerina Fairfax, inside their Annandale home and then killed himself, leaving behind their two teenage children.

Background and Legal Career

Fairfax grew up in Washington, D.C., raised by his mother and grandparents. He attended DeMatha Catholic High School, earned a public policy studies degree from Duke University in 2000, and received his law degree from Columbia University in 2005.1News Observer. Justin Fairfax Education Background

She said the encounter began consensually before turning into an assault.
