Lul Timm in the King Von Case: Charge, Dismissal, Murder-for-Hire

The Lul Tim King Von case ended in August 2023 when Fulton County prosecutors dismissed the felony murder charge against Timothy Leeks before he was ever indicted, with reports indicating the office had come to view the shooting as self-defense.¹² Leeks, a Savannah, Georgia native who records as Lul Tim, had been charged with one count of felony murder in the November 2020 shooting death of Chicago rapper Dayvon Bennett, known as King Von, outside an Atlanta hookah lounge. The killing has since produced a separate federal case: rapper Lil Durk and five associates were charged in a murder-for-hire plot prosecutors say was retaliation for King Von’s death.

What Happened Outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of November 6, 2020, around 3:00 to 4:00 a.m., at the Monaco Hookah Lounge at 255 Trinity Avenue in downtown Atlanta. King Von and a group of men arrived after leaving the Opium Nightclub, and two men approached them in the parking lot.³ An argument escalated into a fistfight and then into gunfire. Surveillance footage from the scene appeared to show King Von throwing punches at members of rapper Quando Rondo’s crew, and sources close to Rondo said Von was the aggressor.⁴

Six men were shot. King Von, 26, and Mark Blakely, 34, both of Chicago, died. Three others were hospitalized, and a sixth person was struck by a fleeing vehicle. On-duty and off-duty Atlanta officers were present and fired shots during the chaos, but police clarified that King Von was struck during the initial exchange between the two groups, before officers engaged.⁵

The Feud Behind the Fight

The two camps had been trading shots online. King Von was signed to Lil Durk’s Only the Family (OTF) label, and Quando Rondo was associated with NBA YoungBoy’s imprint. Social media disputes, including an Instagram Live in which King Von disparaged YoungBoy’s music, had fueled friction in the weeks before.⁶ Reports indicated Quando Rondo had been napping in a car in the lot and was approached after he woke up and stepped out.⁷

The Felony Murder Charge Against Leeks

Leeks was arrested on November 7, 2020, the day after the shooting, while being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound he sustained in the fight.⁵ Atlanta Police charged the then-22-year-old with one count of felony murder in King Von’s death.² With Leeks identified as the shooter, investigators considered the homicide case closed and did not investigate Quando Rondo.⁷

Murder is typically a non-bondable offense in Georgia, so Leeks stayed in the Fulton County Jail for several months. His defense team appealed to Superior Court and secured a $100,000 bond. He was released on March 29, 2021, wearing an ankle monitor.³ While out on bond, in September 2021, he was arrested again in Savannah on 13 traffic-related violations, including reckless driving, fleeing police, and obstructing law enforcement.⁸

Why the Charge Was Dismissed

On August 20, 2023, Leeks’ attorney Noah Pines confirmed the dismissal. “The case against Mr. Leeks was dismissed prior to ever being indicted,” Pines said.¹ Prosecutors reportedly concluded King Von had been killed in self-defense.² A legal analyst quoted by Complex noted that the decision reflected a determination that there was not enough evidence to convict beyond a reasonable doubt, and emphasized that a pre-indictment dismissal is not a formal finding of innocence.

The self-defense account had been consistent from the night of the shooting. Quando Rondo’s camp said publicly that Von was the aggressor, and the parking-lot footage appeared to support that version. In a later interview with VladTV, Leeks said he had acted to protect his friend and expressed regret over how the confrontation escalated, while placing responsibility on King Von’s side.⁹

Quando Rondo himself was never charged in the shooting. He addressed it publicly on the November 20, 2020 track “End of Story,” which asserted self-defense with lines including “He shouldn’t have never put his hands on me / Look at the footage” and voiced support for Leeks: “Lul Timmy riding right or wrong.”¹⁰

The Retaliation: Lil Durk’s Federal Murder-for-Hire Case

The state’s decision to drop the charge did not end the fallout from King Von’s death. Federal prosecutors allege Lil Durk placed a monetary bounty on Quando Rondo and that OTF associates carried out an attempt to collect it.¹¹

On August 19, 2022, five men with alleged OTF ties traveled to Los Angeles. Prosecutors say a credit card associated with OTF paid for plane tickets from Chicago and that Kavon London Grant flew in from Miami by private jet to oversee the operation.¹² The group allegedly tracked Quando Rondo’s black Cadillac Escalade through the day and cornered it at a gas station at La Cienega and Beverly boulevards near the Beverly Center, firing at least 18 rounds from firearms modified to shoot automatically.¹³ Quando Rondo and his sister survived. His 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, was killed.¹⁴

Lil Durk (Durk Banks), 32, was arrested near Miami International Airport on October 17, 2024, and charged alongside co-defendants Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston.¹⁵¹⁶¹⁷¹⁸

Where Leeks Is Now

Since the dismissal, Leeks has stayed visible in hip-hop circles. He has appeared with NBA YoungBoy at concerts and gave a VladTV interview in which he discussed the shooting and Lil Durk’s arrest.¹⁹ In January 2026, a verified account on X falsely claimed he had been shot in Texas. Leeks denied it directly, posting a “cap” emoji and writing, “If y’all miss me just say that.” No police reports or hospital records supported the claim.²⁰
