She missed a shift on August 1. Her supervisor asked for a welfare check. When Manassas Park officers came to the house on August 2, Naresh Bhatt told them the couple was separating and suggested Mamta might be visiting family. He declined to report her missing. What Investigators Found
Detectives executed a search warrant at the Bhatt home on August 21, 2024. Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo said publicly that Naresh Bhatt had become uncooperative. Inside the house, a cadaver dog alerted to the master bedroom and bathroom, and investigators found blood along with evidence that a body had been moved between rooms. Prosecutors have reconstructed Naresh Bhatt’s movements from surveillance video, Tesla GPS data, and license plate readers. On July 30 and 31, they say, he bought knives, rubberized gloves, extra-large storage bags, and cleaning supplies.8NBC Washington. Around 1:30 a.m. on July 31, video in Falls Church showed him pulling trash bags from his Tesla’s trunk and placing them in a trash compactor at a property where he held a sublease. He did not have his phone on him, but prosecutors said his Tesla’s location tracking placed him at the scene. On August 1, he was seen on video dropping bags into a clothing donation bin at a gas station. The power saw became the central piece of forensic evidence. In October 2024, the Virginia Department of Forensic Science reported that blood on the saw matched a DNA profile developed from Mamta’s hairbrush. The Search for Her Remains
Mamta’s body has not been recovered. In March 2025, attention turned to the Page County landfill in Luray, Virginia, which receives trash from dumpsters in Manassas and Falls Church. Charges Against Naresh Bhatt
Naresh Bhatt was arrested on August 22, 2024, and arraigned the next day. The initial charge was a single felony count of concealing a dead body.
