The Matchroom vs. Jake Paul lawsuit ended in a confidential settlement in March 2025, closing out a $100 million defamation case that Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and veteran judge Glenn Feldman had pursued against Paul in Manhattan federal court for more than two years. The dispute began with a September 2022 interview Paul gave to the YouTube channel IFL TV. On camera, he accused Matchroom of paying judge Glenn Feldman to score fights for its promoted boxers, calling it a “repeated crime.” He pointed to two bouts: the April 2022 Katie Taylor–Amanda Serrano fight, which Feldman scored 97–93 for Taylor (the widest of the three cards), and the August 2022 Oleksandr Usyk–Anthony Joshua rematch, in which Feldman was the only judge to score it for Joshua. Hearn and Matchroom demanded a retraction. Paul refused.
The Complaint and Feldman’s Intervention
Matchroom Boxing Limited and Edward John Hearn filed suit on September 23, 2022, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeking more than $100 million. The case landed with Judge Paul G. Gardephe under docket 22-cv-8178. The complaint alleged that Paul’s statements were made with “malicious intent” and had caused financial and reputational harm.3ABC News. Feldman moved to intervene as a co-plaintiff in October 2022, and the court granted the motion that December. A judge since 1992 with roughly 1,200 bouts on his record and a 2011 induction into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame, Feldman filed a separate complaint through attorney Frank Salzano seeking damages above the $75,000 federal threshold plus punitive damages. Salzano argued that Paul’s comments “harmed Feldman’s reputation in the public, impute the commission of a crime, and/or call into question Feldman’s fitness to perform his work in his trade and profession.”2ESPN. Why the Case Took Two Years to Move
Paul’s team signaled in late November 2022 that it would seek dismissal, arguing the New York court had no personal jurisdiction over Paul, a Puerto Rico resident, and that venue was improper. The motion sat for nearly two years. On September 30, 2024, Gardephe denied it, rejecting Paul’s jurisdictional arguments and his contention that Matchroom was doing business in New York without proper authorization. The judge set a pretrial conference for October 16, 2024, and ordered a joint letter covering the case posture, pending motions, and settlement prospects.7MMA Fighting. The Settlement
With dismissal off the table, the sides chose not to try the case. On March 18, 2025, attorneys for Hearn, Matchroom, Feldman, and Paul told the court they had settled.1CBS Sports. The court flagged procedural problems on three consecutive filings, including incorrect party designations, before accepting a corrected stipulation naming Jake Paul individually on April 3, 2025.8PACER Monitor. The dismissal was with prejudice, so neither side can refile the same claims. The stipulation said “without costs or fees to either party.”1CBS Sports. Business Between the Parties During the Case
Hearn and Paul kept working together throughout the litigation. Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions was the primary promoter for the Taylor–Serrano rematch in November 2024, which aired on Netflix and featured Matchroom’s Katie Taylor. The two sides also collaborated on a third Taylor–Serrano fight scheduled for July 11, 2025, at Madison Square Garden.9Ring Magazine.
