Mausica, along Mausica Road between D’Abadie and Arima, has appeared in Trinidad and Tobago court reporting for a string of serious matters. The most prominent Mausica crime cases include the 2022 fatal shooting of Mark Rennie Mohammed in the PriceSmart car park, the 2022 murder of Krystal Long, the 2025 killing of Scot Rambarran, a $1.5 million armed robbery at PriceSmart Mausica in 2016, and a 2020 ATM fraud bust at Pine Place.
PriceSmart Car Park Shooting of Mark Rennie Mohammed
On October 6, 2022, Mark Rennie Mohammed, 41, of Barataria, was shot by masked gunmen in the car park of the PriceSmart store on Mausica Road, D’Abadie. Two or three armed men opened fire, striking him several times. He was taken to Arima Hospital and died from his injuries, which included a gunshot wound to the head.1Trinidad Guardian. Later reporting revealed Mohammed had been working as a police informant. After authorities found $339,592 worth of marijuana in a barrel linked to him in February 2022, he was questioned and, in exchange for cooperating, was not charged for the drug shipment. Krystal Long Murder and the Charge Against Jason Clarke
On September 9, 2022, Krystal Long, 37, of Santa Rosa Heights, was found dead at a structure in Crescent Gardens, Mausica, Arima. An autopsy found she died from multiple blunt force injuries. Jason Clarke, 39, known as “Spade” and a resident of Mausica Road, D’Abadie, was charged with her murder by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Two, on legal advice from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions George Busby.4Trinidad Guardian. Clarke appeared before Magistrate Indar Jagroop at the Arima Magistrates’ Court on October 6, 2022, and the matter was adjourned to November 3, 2022. The available record contains no further public updates on the case.
Scot Rambarran Murder
Scot Rambarran, a 35-year-old father of one, was reported missing on July 8, 2025, after he left home around 4:30 p.m. with a friend to travel to Arima, reportedly to buy a vehicle. He was carrying $25,000 in cash. Two days later, a search team led by Hunters Search and Rescue found his body in the passenger seat of his white Toyota NZE in bushes along Mausica Road South in Centeno.5Trinidad Guardian. Police arrested Justin Baird, a 23-year-old mechanic from the St. Helena and Arouca area, on July 22, 2025. He was charged on July 27, 2025 with murder, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition. The charges were filed by PC Benaldo of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region II, on the instructions of Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, SC. The $1.5 Million PriceSmart Mausica Robbery
On July 3, 2016, armed men robbed the PriceSmart branch on Mausica Road in a $1.5 million heist. Police later charged Kerlon Smith, 33, with the robbery, and Clinton John, 22, with receiving a cell phone stolen during the incident.9Trinidad Guardian. Two Charged in PriceSmart Robbery
Kurt Cupid, 44, of Moka, Maraval, was also charged with participating in the robbery. Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar denied him bail and remanded him into custody, with his case transferred to the Arima Magistrates’ Court. ATM Fraud Arrests at Pine Place
In early June 2020, officers from the Fraud Squad’s ABM Task Force ran an anti-crime operation at Pine Place, Mausica, and arrested two foreign nationals. Kingson Yogonathan, 30, a Canadian national living at the address, was charged with two counts of trafficking in counterfeit cards and one count of possession of card-making equipment. Geeta Mohabir, 27, a Guyanese national at the same address, faced one count of trafficking in counterfeit cards and one count of possession of card-making equipment.11Trinidad Guardian. Officers recovered counterfeit cards, ATM receipts, a bulletproof vest, a red dot scope, and card-skimming equipment. Both were charged by PC Solozano on June 6, 2020, and were scheduled to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on June 8, 2020.
Severed Arms Found on Mausica Road
In July 2023, police investigated the discovery of two severed human arms at the corner of the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway and Mausica Road South. Homicide investigators, Southern Division officers, and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit worked to identify the origin of the remains. A man already in custody for an unrelated offense was identified as someone who could assist the inquiry, though no charges connected to the discovery were publicly reported at the time.12Trinidad Guardian.
