How the Shooting Happened
In the early morning hours of June 21, 2020, Treadwell walked into an AM/PM convenience store in south Sacramento. He saw Hirschfield inside, turned around, and got back into his car. Hirschfield followed, and the two vehicles reached speeds of up to 113 mph before Treadwell lost control and crashed near Franklin Boulevard and Fruitridge Road.1Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. Treadwell tried to escape on foot. Hirschfield kept after him, first in his car and then on foot, and caught up to him at the drive-thru of a JimBoy’s Tacos at the intersection. No motive has been publicly established. Prosecutors and news coverage offered no explanation for the pursuit, and no prior relationship between the two men was reported. Arrest and Charges
Sacramento police investigated for nearly three months before making an arrest. On September 14, 2020, officers took 19-year-old Hirschfield into custody at his home near Rio Linda on a felony murder warrant and a felony firearm-possession charge. Police had initially withheld his identity while pursuing leads, and booking records listed him as ineligible for bail. The Verdict and Sentencing
Trial began roughly four years after the shooting, in Sacramento County Superior Court before Judge Shelleyanne W. L. Chang. On August 2, 2024, the jury returned guilty verdicts on first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm, and found the firearm-discharge enhancement true. Who Bris Was
Christopher Treadwell Jr., born October 9, 1995, performed under the name Bris and had become a rising figure in Sacramento hip-hop. He started making music in 2016 and released his first track, “Wit That Mask,” in October 2018.7Genius. He collaborated often with Sacramento artists Mac J and G Man, releasing the mixtape 10:42 with G Man in 2019. His final single, “Need Hammy,” came out one week before his death.8Complex.
