On May 23, 2024, Kandiyohi County deputies executed a search warrant at the Rekieta home. Inside, officers found Kayla Rekieta, four juveniles, and a family friend, April Imholte. - Felony second-degree drug possession, for possessing more than 25 grams of cocaine.
- Gross misdemeanor child endangerment, tied to the presence of controlled substances in a home with children.
- Gross misdemeanor unlawful firearm possession, for possessing firearms while being a user of controlled substances.

Why the Charges Against Kayla Rekieta Were Dismissed
On January 24, 2025, Nick Rekieta pleaded guilty in Kandiyohi County District Court to an amended charge of third-degree drug possession — possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug other than heroin or fentanyl. A central term of the plea deal was that every charge against Kayla Rekieta would be dropped. Nick Rekieta explained the arrangement in his own words: “I’m just pleading based on the facts: the recovered illegal substances were mine. They were kept in a safe, which only I could access.”2KADN. Kayla Rekieta’s Status Now
Kayla Rekieta has no remaining legal proceedings from the May 2024 raid. All counts against her were dismissed by the prosecutor as part of the plea agreement.3FOX 9. What Nick Rekieta Received Under the Deal
On April 18, 2025, Judge Stephen Wentzell sentenced Nick Rekieta to 30 days in the Kandiyohi County Jail (with credit for two days served), five years of probation, and 80 hours of community service, along with random drug and alcohol testing and a firearms ban.4Willmar Radio. The sentence carried a stay of adjudication. If Nick Rekieta completes his five years of probation without incident, the third-degree drug possession charge will be dismissed and will not appear as a conviction on his record.3FOX 9. April Anderson, the Other Woman in the House
April Imholte, described in some reports as a live-in nanny and family friend, was in the home during the raid and was originally charged with drug possession and related offenses. Her charges were dropped on the same terms as Kayla Rekieta’s. Asked about her, Nick Rekieta declined to say more: “April is a dear friend who has too many people talking about her life.
