The Detroit Land Bank Property Fight
In 2017, Curtis’s company Detroit Renovations LLC bought a 1921 foursquare at 451 East Grand Boulevard in Detroit’s Islandview neighborhood for $17,000, then spent about $60,000 on repairs. Curtis eventually won. Wayne County Judge Tim Kenny ruled that Detroit Renovations had recorded its title before the Land Bank did, giving Curtis the superior claim. Minneapolis Sued Over a Two-Dollar House
In January 2017, the City of Minneapolis sued Curtis and Detroit Renovations over 1522 Hillside Avenue North, a property Curtis had bought from the city in 2013 for two dollars.
