Nissan Rogue class action lawsuits have targeted at least five distinct defects over the past several years: failing CVT transmissions, phantom automatic braking, gasoline fumes in the cabin, VC-Turbo engine failures, and rear windshields that shatter without warning. Whether you can claim anything depends almost entirely on your model year and which defect your vehicle has.
2014–2018 Rogue: CVT Transmission Settlement
If you own or owned a 2014–2018 Rogue (excluding the Hybrid), you are covered by the Stringer v. Nissan North America settlement, which received final approval on March 23, 2022. The deal was valued at more than $277 million and covered roughly two million vehicles, including 2015–2018 Pathfinders and 2015–2018 Infiniti QX60s equipped with the Jatco-built CVT.1NHTSA. 2019–2022 Rogue: Second CVT Lawsuit Still Pending
Newer Rogues were left out of the Stringer deal, and owners say they have the same transmission problems. A follow-up class action, Stockley v. Nissan of North America, was filed in the Middle District of Tennessee covering 2019–2022 Rogues and 2017–2022 Rogue Sports. The complaint describes stalling, shuddering, jerking, delayed acceleration, and catastrophic failure.7NissanRogueCVTLawsuit.com. 2017–2020 Rogue: Automatic Emergency Braking Case
Owners alleged that the Rogue’s automatic emergency braking slams on without warning when no obstacle is present, a problem they blamed on a Continental ARS410 radar sensor. Drivers reported the brakes activating over railroad tracks, on bridges, and on open road.8Beasley Allen. Federal Judge Grants Certification of Proposed Nissan Rogue Class

2021–2023 Rogue: Gasoline Fumes in the Cabin
Owners of Rogues built around the 1.5-liter VC-Turbo three-cylinder engine filed Elias v. Nissan North America in April 2023, alleging that porous rubber in the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system lets fuel permeate and sends gasoline fumes into the cabin. Plaintiffs say the fumes have caused dizziness, nausea, and headaches, and that dealers have told them no fix is available.10ClassAction.org. 2021–2025 Rogue: VC-Turbo Engine Failures and Federal Recall
A broader class action over the same VC-Turbo powertrain, Becker v. Nissan of North America, was filed in July 2025. It alleges that bearings in the variable compression mechanism fail under heat and pressure, with software defects, lower-link problems, and substandard materials making it worse. Reported symptoms: knocking, hesitation, rough idle, excessive oil consumption, and complete engine failure.13ClassAction.org. 2021–2025 Rogue: Shattering Rear Windshields
The newest Rogue case, DeLucia-Roitman v. Nissan North America, was filed January 6, 2026 in the Middle District of Tennessee. The lawsuit alleges that tempered soda-lime glass in the rear windshields of 2021–2025 Rogues contains microscopic nickel sulfide impurities that create internal stress and cause the glass to shatter without warning, with no collision or impact involved. Owners have reported the glass exploding while parked, idling, and driving.17ClassAction.org. 2021-2025 Nissan Rogue Models Equipped With Rear Windshields That Can Explode, Class Action Suit Says
