The Porsche sunroof drain settlement resolves a class action over water leaks in 2014–2023 Panamera, Cayenne, and Macan vehicles, and it gives covered owners three things: reimbursement for past repair costs, an extended warranty on future sunroof-related repairs, and one free sunroof drain cleaning per year at an authorized Porsche dealer. The court granted final approval on April 4, 2025, and the settlement took effect on May 8, 2025. The claim and exclusion deadlines have passed, but the annual drain cleaning benefit continues for years after approval and is the piece most current owners can still use.1Angeion Group / U.S. District Court, W.D. The Defect at the Center of the Case
The affected Porsches route sunroof rainwater through four hoses that exit under the vehicle through tapered rubber “duckbill” valves. The valves were meant to block insects and debris, but in practice they trapped dirt, pollen, and leaves, and the buildup clogged the drains. When that happened, water backed up into the cabin even with the sunroof fully closed. Owners reported soaked carpets, damaged headliners, mold, and in severe cases failures of electrical components such as subwoofers and park-assist modules, with some vehicles declared total losses by insurers.2Porsche Club of America. Cayenne, Macan, Panamera Owners: Restitution for Clogged Drains Porsche addressed the issue in a 2019 technical service bulletin on “Panoramic Roof Water Management” covering the Panamera, Cayenne, and Macan.3NHTSA. Porsche Technical Service Bulletin 1903 – Panoramic Roof Water Management Porsche denied the lawsuit’s allegations and settled to avoid prolonged litigation.4Carscoops. What the Settlement Pays or Provides
Reimbursement for Past Repairs
Class members who paid out of pocket for covered sunroof-related repairs before November 6, 2024, could submit one claim per vehicle. Reimbursement depends on the vehicle’s age and mileage at the time of the repair. If the vehicle was under six years old and under 80,000 miles, reimbursement ran on a sliding scale from up to 100 percent for newer, lower-mileage vehicles down to 45 percent as the vehicle approached those limits. If the vehicle was already past six years or 80,000 miles when the repair happened, reimbursement is a flat 35 percent. Any goodwill payments, insurance proceeds, or other concessions already received are deducted.6SunroofDrainSettlement.com. Frequently Asked Questions
Extended Warranty for Future Repairs
Current owners and lessees get an extension of Porsche’s new-car limited warranty that covers a percentage of a covered sunroof repair performed at an authorized Porsche dealer. The extension runs up to six years or 80,000 miles from the vehicle’s original in-service date. The coverage percentage uses the same age-and-mileage matrix as the past-repair reimbursement, so a vehicle in its third year under 36,000 miles would be covered at 100 percent, and one in its sixth year above 72,000 miles at 45 percent.6SunroofDrainSettlement.com.
