Powur Solar Lawsuit: Complaints, Disputes, and Subcontractor Issues

A Powur solar lawsuit at the class-action or state enforcement level has not been filed against the company as of 2026. Individual customer disputes exist, but Powur’s contracts route them into mandatory arbitration rather than public court, which is a major reason no consolidated case has surfaced despite steady consumer frustration.

Has Powur Been Sued

The available record shows no class-action lawsuit and no state attorney general enforcement action naming Powur PBC as a defendant. What exists instead is a pattern of individual disputes that never reach open court.

One Texas customer who alleged fraud and Deceptive Trade Practices Act violations on an $87,000 solar project reported being unable to sue because the Powur contract includes a mandatory arbitration clause with no opt-out.1JustAnswer. Formal regulatory complaint volume against Powur is low where it can be measured. Illinois’s 2024 annual consumer complaints report for its solar incentive programs listed just two complaints against Powur, both filed that year, with the company classified as a “designee” acting on behalf of an approved vendor.3Illinois Solar for All. Consumer reviews are polarized. SolarReviews shows a 2.86 out of 5 across 37 reviews, with 17 five-star and 18 one-star ratings.5SolarReviews. Powur Energy Reviews The Better Business Bureau has accredited Powur since May 2020 and rates it A+.6BBB. Powur BBB Business Profile Negative reviews cluster on unanswered support lines, systems that stopped producing power after installation, subcontractors who became unreachable, project delays that stretched past a year, and utility bills that rose rather than fell. One February 2026 review alleged a 3,100% increase in electric bills tied to improper installation.

Why Powur Gets Confused With MC Solar

A large share of the search interest in a “Powur solar lawsuit” traces back to a separate case that does not name Powur. In November 2023, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody sued MC Solar, a Tampa-area installer, along with related entities Modern Concepts Construction LLC, Modern Concepts Solar and Roofing Inc., MCSolar Capital Group LLC, and three individual owners.7Florida Office of the Attorney General. OAG v. MC Solar Complaint

The complaint alleged that from mid-2021 through December 2022, the operation induced consumers into solar agreements, triggered loan disbursements with falsified project statuses and forged signatures, misrepresented tax incentives, and abandoned projects. Prosecutors cited more than 422 consumer complaints and sought to shut the business down, revoke its licenses, secure restitution, and impose civil penalties.7Florida Office of the Attorney General. The complaint does not mention Powur. But because Powur’s business model connects independent sales consultants with roughly 120 subcontracted installation firms, homeowners who signed with a Powur sales rep sometimes attribute installer-level misconduct to Powur itself.9Wefunder. Powur – Details

Industry Enforcement That Touches Powur Customers

Two other enforcement actions do not name Powur but affect the financing that Powur customers use.

In April 2024, the Minnesota Attorney General sued four major residential solar lenders (GoodLeap, Sunlight Financial, Solar Mosaic, and Dividend Solar Finance) alleging they concealed inflated dealer fees inside loan amounts. The suit said those fees ran from 10% to 36% of total project cost and negated expected electricity savings, and that GoodLeap alone charged Minnesota consumers at least $6.4 million in such fees between 2017 and 2023.10PV Magazine USA. In April 2026, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued civil investigative demands to Freedom Forever, Sunrun, Lone Star Solar, and CAM Solar, focused on misrepresentations about energy savings, system performance, and contract terms. The office reported over 100 formal complaints against those companies.11Texas Attorney General. Across the sector, a Center for Responsible Lending report notes that solar loan contracts commonly bundle forced arbitration clauses, disclaimers that override oral sales promises, and UCC liens on the panels that can complicate a homeowner’s ability to refinance a mortgage.12Center for Responsible Lending. What to Do If You Have a Dispute With Powur

Start with your contract. Powur agreements have been reported to require a “meet and confer” step, then mediation, then binding arbitration, with no opt-out on the arbitration clause.2JustAnswer. Contracted Powur Solar for Solar System Following those steps in order matters, because skipping the pre-arbitration process can give the company grounds to dismiss a later claim.

If you are inside the cancellation window, act immediately. In California, where Powur is headquartered, the Public Utilities Commission requires at least three business days to cancel a solar contract for any reason after signing. Consumers 65 or older get five business days. Cancellation can be delivered by email, mail, fax, or in person, and must be received by midnight of the applicable deadline. Providers who refuse to honor a timely cancellation can be reported to the Contractors State License Board.13California Public Utilities Commission. California Solar Consumer Protection Guide

Past the cooling-off window, state consumer protection statutes are the main lever. Texas’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act allows recovery of up to three times actual damages if a solar company knowingly misled a consumer. To support any misrepresentation or underperformance claim, gather the contract, any financing agreement, sales materials and written promises, all email and text messages with your consultant and installer, and production data from the system’s monitoring portal placed alongside your actual utility bills.

If your agreement is a solar lease or power purchase agreement rather than a purchase, exit is harder. These typically run 10 to 25 years. Some providers offer a 30-day penalty-free cancellation window, and contracts may permit exit if pre-installation inspections reveal roof problems or if permitting fails. Otherwise the routes are buying out the remaining payments, transferring the agreement to a new homeowner, or purchasing the system at fair market value.14EnergySage. If a subcontracted installer damaged your roof or left work incomplete, the installer is a separate legal party from Powur and may carry its own license, bond, and insurance. State contractor licensing boards handle complaints against the installer directly, which can proceed in parallel with any arbitration against Powur.

Why the Subcontractor Model Fuels Complaints

Powur was founded in 2015 and operates as a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation. Rather than employing sales staff or maintaining installation crews, it runs a platform that links roughly 4,500 independent sales consultants with about 120 subcontracted installation firms across more than 20 states.9Wefunder. Powur – Details

That structure creates the accountability gap that shows up throughout the complaint record. When a system underproduces, a roof leaks, or a promised rebate never materializes, the sales consultant, the local installer, and the Powur platform can each attribute responsibility to the others. Positive reviews, by contrast, tend to name a specific consultant who stayed engaged through installation and follow-up.5SolarReviews. Powur Energy Reviews For a consumer weighing a dispute, that pattern points to a practical step at the outset: identify every party on your paperwork (sales entity, installation contractor, and financing company) because a remedy may run against one and not the others.
