Qaw’mane Wilson is a Chicago man serving a 99-year prison sentence for arranging the September 2012 murder of his mother, Yolanda Holmes, so he could seize her bank accounts and life insurance payouts. Wilson, an aspiring rapper who performed as “Young QC,” hired a friend to shoot Holmes in her apartment, then spent the stolen money on luxury cars, jewelry, and designer clothes he broadcast on social media. The flashy displays helped draw suspicion, and he was arrested more than a year later. Judge Stanley Sacks called the crime matricide and handed down the 99-year term in January 2020.

The Murder
In the early morning of September 2, 2012, Eugene Spencer entered Holmes’s apartment building near Montrose and Broadway using an access code Wilson had provided. Surveillance footage caught him walking in around 4:32 a.m. in a hoodie, carrying clothes on a hanger and a detergent bottle to look like a resident.3Oxygen. How He Was Caught
The case stayed open for more than a year. Wilson’s behavior after the killing had already unsettled people close to the family. His cousin Zion Banks said Wilson seemed “distant” at the funeral and showed none of the usual signs of grief. Relatives and friends called his public displays of wealth “outrageous” and “disgusting,” and noted he had no legitimate income that could support the lifestyle.6DNAinfo Chicago. Wilson was arrested on December 22, 2013; Spencer and Johnson were arrested the following day. On December 24, 2013, Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered all three held without bail.
