Quenton Brown Stabbing Case: Five Charges and Self-Defense Claim

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded around 5:42 p.m. on August 20, 2025 to a stabbing at All American Park, on the 1500 block of South Buffalo Drive near Charleston Boulevard.² According to the arrest report, the dispute started when Brown opened his SUV door and struck the vehicle parked next to him. The other driver got out to check the damage, and a verbal argument escalated fast.³

Witnesses told police Brown asked the man if he “wanted to go” and the man agreed, walking toward an open area of the park. The arrest report says Brown pulled a knife and stabbed the man in the back while his back was turned, then grabbed his shoulder and struck him repeatedly in the abdomen. One witness described roughly 25 knife swings.⁴³⁵ Fox 5 Vegas later reported he was recovering successfully.⁶

Brown and his wife left the scene. Officers stopped their maroon SUV on southbound U.S. 95 near Decatur Boulevard and found Brown in the passenger seat with facial bleeding and abrasions on his knees; he declined medical treatment. Without prompting, he allegedly told officers, “This was all over a door ding.”⁷ Police seized his blood-stained clothing but did not recover the knife.¹

The Five Charges

Brown was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on the morning of August 21 on suspicion of attempted murder, with bail set at $300,000.⁸ The Clark County District Attorney’s Office then filed a criminal complaint with five counts:

Attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon
Battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm (three counts)
Challenge to a fight with the use of a deadly weapon

Where the Case Stands

At an August 26, 2025 hearing in Las Vegas Justice Court, Brown acknowledged receipt of the criminal complaint and his attorney invoked the right to a preliminary hearing.⁹ Brown posted the $300,000 bail and was released subject to electronic monitoring and a judicial instruction to “stay out of trouble.”¹⁰ The case was assigned to Judge Kristal Bradford, and the preliminary hearing, initially set for September 9, was continued to October 22, 2025.¹

Self-Defense Claim and the Prosecution’s Response

Brown’s attorney, Arnold Weinstock, has said his client acted in self-defense. Weinstock told reporters, “My client was basically the victim in this case,” claiming the other man attacked Brown’s vehicle, tried to force him to fight, and struck Brown in the head with a gun before the stabbing.¹¹ Weinstock said Brown “did not initiate anything” and described the victim as having “pistol-whipped” Brown.⁵ Brown’s wife, driving the SUV at the traffic stop, told officers on camera that the victim struck their passenger mirror and, “Next thing I know, my husband is on the ground.”¹

Prosecutors have disputed that account. Chief Deputy District Attorney Richard Scow noted that witnesses said Brown challenged the victim to a fight and then attacked him from behind while his back was turned.¹² Police investigators reached the same conclusion, citing the direction and nature of the initial wounds.³ Police documents cited in reporting make no mention of a gun recovered from the scene or from the victim.⁵

Who Quenton Brown Is

Quenton Marselles Brown, who also goes by “Marselles,” had a professional boxing career running roughly from 1989 to 2008, with additional bouts between 2014 and 2016, totaling more than 45 fights.¹³ He was appointed to an interim seat on the Hawaii State Boxing Commission in 2013.¹⁴ He also has a prior arrest: in 2016, Henderson Police arrested him on a charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. The outcome of that earlier case was not detailed in available reporting.³ His son Jaylen Brown helped lead the Boston Celtics to an NBA championship. Neither Jaylen Brown nor the Celtics organization had made a public statement about the arrest as of the most recent available reporting.
