Why the Postnup Did the Heavy Lifting

Brunson and Anik married in October 2021 without a prenuptial agreement. Abbott Elementary premiered two months later and quickly became a hit for ABC. The couple signed the postnuptial agreement in 2022, while Brunson’s earnings and profile were climbing fast.⁶

By season four, Brunson was earning between $350,000 and $400,000 per episode as an actress, which works out to roughly $7.7 million for a 22-episode season before her compensation as creator, writer, and executive producer.⁷ In August 2022, she also signed an exclusive multiyear overall deal with Warner Bros. Because the postnup controlled the division, nothing in the public filings specified how any of this — her show earnings, the Warner Bros. deal, or the couple’s Valley Village home — was classified as community or separate property. I promise you.” She continued: “No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life. It’s just that that’s public record information. I hate all of it.”¹

She called it “a transitional time” and said she was focused on “watering my own gardens, taking care of myself and the people around me who I actually interact with day-to-day.”¹² Anik, who works in California’s legal cannabis industry and kept a low profile throughout the marriage, made no public statements about the divorce.¹³
