Investigation Into Possible Additional Victims
Aurora detectives said the investigation extended beyond the sting itself. Information developed during the case suggested Bledsoe may have had sexual contact with minors in Denver, Phoenix, and Pennsylvania. Lt. Seth Robertson of the department’s Special Victims Section cited “significant concerns about the potential of there being victims throughout the country,” pointing to the travel his career as a pilot afforded him.5Arizona Republic. How the Colorado Luring Statute Applied
Colorado’s internet luring law reaches a person who knowingly communicates online or by phone with someone they know or believe to be under 15, describes explicit sexual conduct, and invites the person to meet in connection with that communication. The offense is a Class 5 felony, and a Class 4 felony when committed with intent to engage in sexual exploitation or sexual contact.7FindLaw. Colorado Revised Statutes § 18-3-306 The statute also specifies that it is not a defense if the actor and the child never actually met, the provision that makes sting operations like the one that caught Bledsoe possible.
The Co-Defendant’s Outcome
