Ron Jeremy Now: Charges, Jail Release, and Civil Cases

Ron Jeremy, the former adult film star born Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, is now 72 and living in a state mental health facility, where he is expected to remain for the rest of his life. The dozens of rape and sexual assault charges filed against him in Los Angeles County were terminated in 2025 after a judge concluded he would never be mentally competent to stand trial.

Where He Is Today

As of April 2025, Jeremy resides in a state mental health facility and is not expected to leave.1Deadline. Why the Criminal Case Ended Without a Trial

Jeremy was never convicted. He was never acquitted either. The case simply stopped moving because he could no longer participate in it.

His mental state became the central issue in March 2022, when defense attorney Stuart Goldfarb told the court that Jeremy no longer recognized him. Judge George Lomeli ordered psychiatric evaluations, and proceedings were suspended in May 2022.4Courthouse News. Judge Orders Mental Health Evaluation for Adult Film Star Ron Jeremy5NBC Los Angeles. Under California Penal Code Section 1370, when a felony defendant is found incompetent, proceedings are suspended and the court may order treatment aimed at restoring competency. If restoration becomes unlikely, the charges can be dismissed.9FindLaw. California Penal Code Section 1370 That is what happened here. What He Had Been Charged With

The charges were serious and their scope grew over time. Jeremy was first charged in January 2020 with sex-related counts involving four women, arrested in June 2020, and held on $6.6 million bail at Men’s Central Jail.11PBS. Release From Jail in 2023

By November 2023, with the criminal case frozen and Jeremy’s health failing, a judge granted a request to move him from Men’s Central Jail to a private residence for round-the-clock medical care. Los Angeles County prosecutors objected, citing public safety and noting that Jeremy had allegedly attempted to assault caregivers at other facilities. Several accusers, represented by attorney Gloria Allred, also objected.2Los Angeles Times. With Rape Case Frozen, Ron Jeremy to Be Released to Private Residence as Health Deteriorates

On November 30, 2023, Superior Court Judge Robert Harrison declined to reverse the release order. He also directed an investigation into whether Jeremy qualified for a “Murphy conservatorship,” a California mechanism that can place a defendant in a state hospital. Allred said the review could take years.14Business Insider. Ron Jeremy Released to Private Residence Despite Accusers’ Objections

The Civil Cases Are Still Moving

Although the criminal charges are gone, civil litigation continued. In August 2023, two women sued Rockin’ Horse, Inc., the owner of the Rainbow Bar and Grill, alleging the business was negligent and had allowed Jeremy to assault female patrons on the premises. More accusers joined over time.1Deadline. Ron Jeremy Rape Rainbow Bar Lawsuit

In April 2025, the Rainbow Bar reached a confidential global settlement with at least nine women, described by one source as “substantial.” Mediation was overseen by Los Angeles County Judge Mark Epstein, with a formal dismissal hearing set for July 2, 2025, at the Santa Monica Courthouse. The bar called the settlement a “business decision” to avoid litigation costs and denied any wrongdoing.10Rolling Stone. Porn Star Ron Jeremy Accusers Settle With Rainbow Bar

Jeremy was not a defendant in the Rainbow Bar suits. He is still named in a separate civil case brought by a woman who alleges he drugged and assaulted her; that trial is scheduled for December 2026.10Rolling Stone. Porn Star Ron Jeremy Accusers Settle With Rainbow Bar
