Sal Henderson’s Charge: The Incident, Arrest, and Driver

Salvatore “Sal” Henderson, a 21-year-old St. Petersburg man, was charged with aggravated battery in February 2018 after he and his 17-year-old brother, David Moorer, beat Uber driver Marvin Carroll in a McDonald’s parking lot and left him in critical condition with a serious head injury.¹

What Happened That Night

On the evening of February 6, 2018, at about 8:40 p.m., Carroll pulled up to a ride request at the McDonald’s at 1020 34th Street North in St. Petersburg. Henderson, Moorer, and others got into his car.¹

Before the trip started, a relative of Moorer’s walked up to the car and told Carroll not to drive the group, explaining that Moorer had been reported as a runaway earlier that day and needed to be taken home.² Carroll told the passengers to get out. Henderson and Moorer refused, and a fight broke out inside the vehicle.³

It carried on outside. Police said both brothers punched Carroll until he fell, and his head struck the concrete.⁴ He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.⁵

The Arrest and Bail

Henderson and Moorer fled, but St. Petersburg police caught up with them soon after. Both were charged with aggravated battery, a felony under Florida law.¹ Henderson was booked into the Pinellas County jail on $10,000 bail.⁴

Who the Driver Was

Marvin Carroll, 47, had been driving for Uber since August 2017 and was working seven days a week to support his family, including a young daughter, according to his girlfriend, Amy Loughlin. He had been unable to work since the attack.⁴
