The Sengled lawsuit picture has several parts, and none of them ended in a courtroom verdict. Two patent infringement suits filed against Sengled Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. in the Eastern District of Texas were both voluntarily dismissed without prejudice, meaning the plaintiffs walked away but kept the right to refile. Separately, Sengled USA paid $122,000 to settle a California Energy Commission enforcement case over non-compliant LED lamps. The bigger practical problem for customers isn’t the litigation at all: it’s a string of cloud outages that pushed Amazon to permanently remove Sengled’s Alexa skill in August 2025, while the company itself has gone largely silent.
The Patent Lawsuits Against Sengled
Two patent assertion entities filed suit against Sengled in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, both before Judge Rodney Gilstrap. Neither case produced a ruling on infringement or patent validity.
The first was BX LED LLC v. Sengled Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., case number 2:24-cv-00817, filed October 7, 2024, with a jury demand from the plaintiff.1CourtListener. BX LED LLC v. Sengled Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. BX LED filed a notice of voluntary dismissal on April 16, 2026, and Judge Gilstrap signed the dismissal without prejudice the following day. No settlement terms were disclosed.2PACER Monitor. BX LED LLC v. Sengled Optoelectronics Co., Ltd.
The second was LightSure LLC v. Sengled Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., filed June 11, 2025, asserting U.S. Patent No. 8,716,942, “Managing Light System Energy Use,” issued May 6, 2014. The patent covers lighting systems that use wirelessly received profiles to adjust brightness based on detected activity. LightSure alleged Sengled’s smart lighting products performed every step of the patented method and contained every element of the patented apparatus, and further accused the company of induced and willful infringement.3ExParte AI Lab. LightSure LLC v. Sengled Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., Case No. 2:25-cv-00620 LightSure filed a notice of voluntary dismissal on June 15, 2026, and Judge Gilstrap signed the order dismissing all claims without prejudice three days later, with each party bearing its own costs and fees.4PACER Monitor. Because both dismissals were without prejudice, either plaintiff could bring the same claims again. Neither case established that Sengled infringed anything, and neither invalidated the patents at issue.
The California Energy Commission Settlement
The only Sengled matter that ended with a payout was a regulatory case, not consumer litigation. The California Energy Commission investigated Sengled USA over LED lamps sold between April 2019 and April 2023, including lamps marketed under the Sigalux brand, that failed performance requirements, failed marking requirements, and were not certified to the state’s Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System.5California Energy Commission. On July 23, 2024, Sengled signed a settlement agreement to pay $122,000 into the state’s Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount. The company also agreed to stop selling the non-compliant Sigalux models and to certify any Sengled-branded models not already listed in the state database. No product recall was announced as part of the settlement, and the money went to the state rather than to consumers.5California Energy Commission. Sengled USA Enforcement Case Settlement
If you own one of the affected lamps, there is no consumer refund program tied to this settlement.
Outages and the Alexa Skill Removal
Sengled’s bigger problem, for anyone who owns its bulbs, has been on the operations side. In mid-June 2025, Sengled’s cloud infrastructure went down and Wi-Fi-enabled smart bulbs stopped responding through the Sengled app, Alexa, and Google Home. Manual switch operation still worked; the smart features did not.6Inside Lighting. Smart Lighting Cloud Failure Leaves Users in the Dark
Amazon emailed affected customers on June 21, 2025, confirming that “Sengled is having an outage which impacts their services and their Wi-Fi devices, including how they interact with Alexa.” Service returned June 22 with no explanation from Sengled.6Inside Lighting. Smart Lighting Cloud Failure Leaves Users in the Dark Problems continued through July, with users reporting bulbs unresponsive for days, apps failing to load, and login credentials being rejected.7Light Now Blog. On August 1, 2025, Amazon permanently removed the Sengled Alexa skill. Amazon spokesperson Lauren Raemhild told The Verge the removal was due to a “series of prolonged outages over the past few months that have not been resolved.” The action cut off voice and routine control for Sengled’s LED lights, plugs, switches, and sensors across Amazon’s ecosystem.8The Verge. What still works depends on how your bulb connects. Bulbs using Zigbee, BLE Mesh, or Matter can connect directly to compatible Echo speakers or Eero routers, though a factory reset and re-pair may be needed. Wi-Fi-only Sengled devices lost Alexa control entirely.8The Verge. Amazon Alexa Skill Ended for Sengled Smart Lighting

The corporate paperwork is current, but consumer platforms describe a company that has effectively stopped operating: unreachable customer support, unreliable cloud services, and reports of unpaid employees dating back to January 2025, with worker strikes by April 2025.7Light Now Blog. If you own Sengled devices, the practical takeaway is that no lawsuit resolved in a way that puts money or replacements in your pocket, and the company itself has not been responsive to warranty claims. Whether your bulbs still function depends on their protocol: Zigbee, BLE Mesh, and Matter devices can be paired directly with compatible hubs, while Wi-Fi-only bulbs that relied on Sengled’s cloud and the pulled Alexa skill have lost the features that made them smart.
