- Breaking and entering (illegal entry without permission), a misdemeanor carrying up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.

What Prosecutors Said Happened
On the afternoon of December 10, 2025, hours after the university fired him, Moore drove to the Pittsfield Township apartment of Paige Shiver, a 32-year-old executive assistant who had worked as a subordinate to him. According to prosecutors, he entered the residence, grabbed kitchen knives and scissors, and threatened to kill himself, telling Shiver, “My blood is on your hands. Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit said the evidence supported an “intent to terrorize and harass the victim,” but because Moore’s statements involved self-harm rather than threats against Shiver, there was “not sufficient evidence to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, an intent to assault or batter the victim.”5Yahoo Sports. The Plea Deal
Moore’s defense attorney, Ellen Michaels, argued that the arrest warrant had been obtained through “false statements,” that the detective’s affidavit omitted the employer-employee relationship between Moore and Shiver, and that statements from Shiver’s then-attorney describing a “long history of domestic violence” were misleading and calculated to “villainize” Moore in advance of civil litigation.6The Athletic. First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kati Rezmierski later acknowledged that the investigation “did not support charges of domestic violence” and said the office did not believe it could prove domestic violence “historically and not what happened on Dec. 10.” She said the office was “obligated to not charge that which we do not think we can prove,” while maintaining that the evidence still supported “criminal misbehavior in the context of an intimate partner relationship.”7Detroit Free Press. On March 6, 2026, the three original charges were dismissed and Moore pleaded no contest to two new misdemeanors: malicious use of a telecommunications device in the context of a domestic relationship, and trespassing. The Sentence and Probation Terms
On April 14, 2026, Judge Simpson sentenced Moore to 18 months of probation under a deferred sentence. If Moore complies with every condition, the charges will be dismissed. The conditions are:
- Payment of $1,345 in fines and court costs.
- Continued mental health treatment.
- No contact, direct or indirect, with Paige Shiver, including online discussion of her or visits to her workplace.
- No consumption of alcohol or drugs.
- No possession of weapons.
Moore received credit for the three days he spent in jail after the arrest, and 180 days of jail time were suspended. The Firing That Preceded the Arrest
The University of Michigan terminated Moore “immediately and with cause” on the morning of December 10, 2025, after an internal investigation found “credible evidence” of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which the university called a “clear violation of University policy.”10CNN. The firing and the criminal case are separate matters. The university acted on its policy on employee relationships; the criminal charges concerned what happened when Moore went to Shiver’s apartment later that same day.
Separate Allegations and Civil Exposure
A few threads sit outside the criminal case that ended in April 2026. Shiver, in a Good Morning America interview, described the roughly four-year relationship as consensual at the outset but coercive over time, and said Moore threatened suicide whenever she tried to end it.14CBS Sports. A separate set of allegations, not charged against Moore, claimed that former assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis sexually assaulted a woman in December 2024 and January 2025 and that the incidents were reported to Moore at the time. Ann Arbor police opened an investigation into Lewis, who was dismissed from his position with the Atlanta Falcons. Moore was also disciplined by the NCAA in August 2025 in the sign-stealing matter involving former staffer Connor Stalions. That was a Level II violation for failure to cooperate, punished by a two-year show-cause and a three-game suspension spread across the 2025 and 2026 seasons.17USA Today.
