Door-to-Door Sales and Disguised Loan Agreements
Separate from the TCPA case, Spartan Solar has drawn allegations tied to how its representatives approach homeowners in person. In March 2025, KNOE-TV reported on a solicitation scheme in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana in which salespeople offered a “free assessment” of the property and then, according to the report, got residents to sign electronic documents that were actually loan agreements. Installation and Billing Complaints
Customer reviews on Spartan Solar’s Jacksonville BBB profile describe solar systems that were improperly sized, leaving homeowners with combined solar-plus-utility bills as high as or higher than what they paid before installation. One consumer account reported in December 2024 involved a $46,000 contract that included $11,400 for a new roof. The homeowner alleged Spartan Solar quoted $6,000 to replace “all the decking” when only three sheets actually needed replacement, work the homeowner estimated at under $500. After the homeowner refused, the company reportedly came back with revised quotes of $4,000 and then $2,500 for the same scope. Why the Financing Structure Matters
Spartan Solar does not perform all installation work itself. At least one consumer identified Edison Solar as the subcontractor that carried out the physical work. When systems fail to function or projects stall, homeowners have reported being unable to reach Spartan Solar by phone or email and having to contact the subcontractor directly. The financing arrangement compounds the problem. Because Spartan Solar sets up third-party loans that fund immediately, homeowners often begin making monthly payments on systems that are not yet operational. Once the loan is in place, the homeowner’s leverage to force the installer to finish the work effectively disappears.
