If you’re expecting a USAA settlement check, it likely comes from one of three recent class actions: the $64 million Bulls v. USAA servicemember overcharge case, which began paying roughly 210,000 people in late April and early May 2025; a $3.25 million data breach settlement that received final approval in May 2025; and a $5 million Maryland late-fee case that was only preliminarily approved in December 2025 and has not yet paid anyone. Which one applies to you determines the amount, the timing, and how the money arrives.
Bulls v. USAA: The $64 Million Servicemember Payment
This is the payment most people asking about a USAA check are looking for. The case (Bulls v. USAA Federal Savings Bank, No. 5:21-cv-00488-BO, E.D.N.C.) resolved claims that USAA Federal Savings Bank overcharged servicemembers on interest and fees in violation of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and the Military Lending Act, and that earlier remediation checks USAA mailed in 2021 never reached or were never cashed by many of the people owed. Judge Terrence W. Boyle granted final approval on January 14, 2025.{1CaseMine. Bulls v. USAA Fed. Sav. Bank, Final Approval Order}
Who Qualifies
The class covers about 210,000 USAA Bank customers in two groups: people who received and deposited a remediation check under the SCRA or MLA programs, and people who were identified as eligible for remediation under the SCRA, MLA, EVP, or DP programs but never successfully cashed the payment. No claim form is required. Payments are issued automatically from USAA’s records.{2USAA Bank Class Action. Frequently Asked Questions}
How Much to Expect
The estimated average payment is more than $200 per person, though individual amounts vary by group.{2USAA Bank Class Action. When and How the Money Arrives
Distribution started in late April and early May 2025 through three channels.{2USAA Bank Class Action. Frequently Asked Questions}
Class members with active USAA deposit accounts were scheduled to receive direct deposits on or about April 29, 2025. If a deposit failed or the account was closed, a physical check is mailed instead.
Digital payments through EpiqPay started on May 6, 2025. Notification emails come from noreply@epiqpay.com and include a “Claim Payment” link; once you pick a payment method it takes two to five business days to process. Digital payments must be claimed by August 4, 2025, and once you select a digital option you cannot switch to a paper check.
Physical checks go to members without a qualifying direct-deposit account or whose electronic payment attempt was unsuccessful. If you’re in Group 1 (the uncashed-remediation group) and don’t cash your check within 180 days of issuance, the funds are subject to escheatment to the state.

Black v. USAA: The $5 Million Maryland Late-Fee Case
No money has been paid out of this settlement yet. It covers more than 127,000 Maryland auto insurance policyholders who were charged late fees between 2011 and 2019 after USAA had withdrawn its authorized fee plans with the Maryland Insurance Administration in June 2011.{9San Antonio Express-News. USAA Agrees to $5M Settlement Over Late Fees} USAA already refunded $7.3 million in principal under a 2020 consent order; this class action (Black et al. v. If You Think You’re Owed Money but Haven’t Heard Anything
Eligibility for each of these settlements is based on the defendant’s own records, so if you don’t appear in those records, no notice will reach you automatically. Start by identifying which case matches your situation: military servicemember with a USAA Bank account and prior SCRA/MLA remediation history (Bulls), USAA insurance quote user notified of the 2021 breach (Data Security Litigation), or Maryland auto policyholder charged late fees between 2011 and 2019 (Black). Then contact the administrator for that case using the details above. Confirm your current mailing address and, for Bulls, check whether an EpiqPay email was sent to an inbox you no longer monitor, since digital payments in that case had to be claimed by August 4, 2025.
