The VW and Audi turbocharger settlement, approved on December 8, 2025 in Kimball v. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., gives owners of roughly 3.9 million vehicles equipped with the EA888 2.0-liter engine two things: partial reimbursement for past out-of-pocket turbocharger repairs, and an extended warranty on Generation 3 vehicles going forward. The claim deadline for past-repair reimbursement was November 29, 2025 and has passed. The warranty extension is still in effect.1TurboClassSettlement.com. Turbo Class Settlement

The alleged defect is wastegate corrosion and wear that causes the turbocharger to fail. On Generation 1 and 2 engines the wear is in the wastegate link plate and link pin; on Generation 3 engines it involves fork head and link pin corrosion.1TurboClassSettlement.com. Reimbursement for a Repair You Already Paid For
If you paid out of pocket for a turbocharger repair before September 15, 2025, and the repair happened within 8.5 years or 85,000 miles of your vehicle’s in-service date, one claim per vehicle was eligible for partial reimbursement. The payout tier depended on what the invoice said:1TurboClassSettlement.com. Turbo Class Settlement
- 50% of the repair cost if the invoice specifically identified the wastegate defect (link plate/pin wear for Gen 1 and 2, or fork head/link pin corrosion for Gen 3) as the cause.
- 40% of the repair cost if the invoice did not name the cause. Proof of adherence to the manufacturer’s oil maintenance schedule was also required.
For repairs done at a non-authorized shop, the invoice amount eligible for reimbursement was capped at $3,850. Any prior goodwill payments, insurance payouts, or service-contract contributions were deducted from what you received.1TurboClassSettlement.com. Turbo Class Settlement
Claims had to include a signed claim form, the repair invoice showing the VIN and work performed, proof of payment, and a signed declaration that the engine had no unauthorized modifications before the repair. Owners who used a non-dealer shop during the original warranty period also had to show a good-faith attempt to have the work done at an authorized dealer first.3TurboClassSettlement.com.
