Who Was Covered
The class included anyone who bought qualifying weighted goods or bagged citrus in person at a Walmart retail store, supercenter, or neighborhood market in the United States or Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024. Two product categories qualified:
- Variable-weight meat, poultry, pork, and seafood packages with price-embedded barcodes, classified internally by Walmart as “Department 93” items.
- Organic oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and navel oranges sold in bulk mesh or plastic bags.
How Much Claimants Receive
Payment depended on whether the claimant submitted receipts.
Without receipts, the claimant attested to how many qualifying items they had bought and received a flat amount: $10 for up to 50 items, $15 for 51 to 75, $20 for 76 to 100, and $25 for 101 or more.

All amounts were subject to pro rata adjustment. If the total of approved claims exceeded the net fund, payments would shrink proportionally; if less, they could grow. The fund is non-reversionary, so any unspent money does not return to Walmart. The court authorized distribution of the net class settlement fund on August 11, 2025. How to Tell a Real Payment From a Scam
The settlement is real. It was reported by NPR, CBS News, The New York Times, and other outlets, and it was approved by a federal judge in the Middle District of Florida. But the notifications can look unusual because they arrive as prepaid Mastercard links by email, and scammers have leaned on the settlement’s visibility.

The administrator will never ask a claimant to send money, hand over a Social Security number, or fill out a survey in exchange for a gift card.
