Warren Siao Murder Case: Repossession Shooting, Trial, and Verdict

The Warren Siao murder case ended on May 6, 2026, when a Madison County, Alabama, jury convicted Siao of murder for fatally shooting tow truck driver Jayson Click during a December 2023 vehicle repossession outside Siao’s home in Harvest. Siao, who claimed he believed he was confronting burglars, was taken into custody ahead of a June 10, 2026, sentencing hearing.¹²

The Repossession Shooting

On the night of December 13, 2023, Jayson Click and a second tow truck driver pulled up to Siao’s home on Wedgewood Terrace Road to repossess a vehicle. Click, 38, owned Ace Towing LLC and lived in Grant, Alabama.³ Prosecutors established that Siao was behind on his car payments and knew a repossession was possible.⁴

Siao told investigators his dogs woke him and he thought two people were trying to steal his car. He admitted firing five to six rounds from an AR-style rifle, killing Click.³ Click’s death was ruled a homicide. Siao was arrested, charged with murder, and released on bond.⁵

Why Stand Your Ground Failed

Siao’s defense tried to end the case before trial by invoking Alabama’s stand-your-ground law. At an April 6, 2026, hearing, Siao testified that he fired the rifle as “warnings” meant to scare the people at his vehicle and that he “didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”⁶

That testimony sank the motion. Prosecutor Shea Keller argued that the defense requires an intentional use of deadly force out of a genuine fear for life, and Siao’s own words described something different. “At no point during his testimony did he say that he was shooting intentionally, that he was going to kill someone. He specifically said he was trying to warn them or scare them,” Keller told the court.⁶ Judge Alison Austin denied the motion and set trial for June 8, 2026.⁷

What the Prosecution Proved at Trial

Trial began in early May 2026. The prosecution’s case turned on the sequence of choices Siao made before firing. Rather than reaching for a handgun in his bedroom, prosecutors said, he traveled through a basement and storm shelter, opened a safe, retrieved a rifle fitted with a sound suppressor, and then went outside to shoot at the repossession crew.⁴

Three sheriff’s deputies and an FBI investigator testified for the state. The FBI agent introduced home security footage recovered from Siao’s residence. Investigators found thousands of security videos on the system, but the segment covering the actual shooting was missing. The defense had tried to keep any mention of the gap out of the trial; the judge denied that motion just before proceedings began, and prosecutors were allowed to point out the absence to the jury.⁴

Click’s widow testified about her husband’s professional habits, describing him as someone who did repossession work “by the book.” Siao’s ex-wife testified for the defense, describing the route through the house to the gun safe as a long one, an effort to counter the prosecution’s picture of a quick, calculated retrieval.⁴ Siao took the stand and again told jurors he believed burglars were at his car and had only meant to scare them off.¹

Verdict and Sentencing

On May 6, 2026, the jury found Warren Siao guilty of murder. Assistant District Attorney Emily Carroll said of Click’s family: “They’ve been through so much and we can’t put back together what they’ve lost. But we can give them a sense of peace with a verdict like this.”¹

Sentencing was set for June 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Madison County jail records show Siao, 50, was booked on June 6, 2026, under a court-sentenced felony status with no bond, taken into custody ahead of the hearing.²

A separate wrongful death lawsuit that Click’s wife, Ann Click, filed against Siao in February 2024 was later dropped by the family. No public reason was given for the dismissal.⁸
