Wes Watson Lawsuit: Gym Attack, Criminal and Domestic Violence Charges

The Wes Watson lawsuit in Miami-Dade County is a civil complaint filed by Hakeem Ibrahim over a December 2024 beating at Watson’s gym, and it runs alongside two active criminal cases: pending aggravated battery and battery charges in Miami-Dade tied to the same incident, and five pending felony charges in Broward County stemming from a March 2026 domestic violence arrest.¹²

What Happened at the Wynwood Gym

On December 29, 2024, an altercation took place at Elev8tion Fitness, a gym at 1625 North Miami Avenue in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, where Watson was a co-owner. Surveillance footage captured what investigators later described as a “vicious and sustained physical attack,” showing a man being kicked, dragged by his hair, and struck repeatedly while pinned on the ground. The video went viral after being posted to Reddit.¹

The victim, Hakeem Ibrahim, says he was lured to the gym under the pretense of a social media challenge. He alleges Watson and two unidentified men attacked him using a weightlifting belt and dumbbells, that racial slurs and death threats were directed at him during the beating, and that a gym employee congratulated Watson with a fist bump afterward.¹ Court records show Ibrahim sustained a face fracture, a concussion, and two black eyes.²

The Civil Lawsuit

Ibrahim filed a 57-page civil complaint against Watson in Miami-Dade County court. Two unidentified men who allegedly participated in the attack are also referenced in the filing. Based on available reporting, the gym entity itself is not named as a defendant.¹

Watson initially missed his deadline to respond, and a judge entered a default judgment against him on June 4, 2025. The court set that default aside and allowed Watson to file his response on June 6, 2025. In it, Watson denied the allegations of an ambush or a “four-on-one assault.” His central argument is that Ibrahim “consented to the alleged physical contact” by showing up at the gym after Watson issued an open challenge on social media. Watson also claims he acted in self-defense and in defense of others. He is demanding a jury trial.¹

The arrest report identified Watson as the “primary aggressor” in the incident.³

The Miami-Dade Criminal Charges

The criminal side of the gym case has a knotted procedural history. Watson was first arrested on April 29, 2025, and charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault. The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office issued “no action” notices on those charges on May 22, 2025, declining to prosecute them at that time. A felony battery charge remained active, with a hearing scheduled for July 28, 2025.¹

Watson was arrested again on February 6, 2026, in connection with the same gym incident. He was charged with aggravated battery and battery in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court, with Judge Mindy Glazer presiding. Bond was set at $2,500, and the judge ordered him to stay away from the victim. Both charges remained pending as of mid-2026.²

The Broward County Domestic Violence Case

While Watson was out on bond in the Miami case, he was arrested again on March 17, 2026, in Hallandale Beach after police served a domestic violence restraining order. He was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on March 18 and remained in custody as of late March 2026.⁴

Watson, 42, faces five felony charges in Broward County:

Robbery by sudden snatching
Felony battery
Aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony
False imprisonment
Hindering, delaying, or preventing communication to a law enforcement officer

According to the arrest report, Watson held his girlfriend against her will at his residence following an incident in Hallandale Beach. Police allege he struck the victim, forcibly slammed her head into a table, and threatened to kill her and her family. The victim reportedly suffered bruises all over her body.² The police report stated the incident was triggered by the victim attending a Miami Heat game without Watson and wearing a shirt he considered disrespectful; he was allegedly upset because he had paid for her breast implants and accused her of infidelity.⁴

Bond was set at $115,000. A judge ordered Watson to stay away from the victim, avoid drugs and alcohol, and avoid weapons or ammunition.²

Where the Cases Stand

As of mid-2026, Watson faces active proceedings on three fronts. In Miami-Dade County, the criminal charges of aggravated battery and battery and Ibrahim’s civil lawsuit both remain pending. In Broward County, the five felony domestic violence charges are also pending. Watson has not been convicted in any of these current cases. He does have a prior felony record: a San Diego County jury convicted him on July 28, 2010, of robbery, burglary, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, and battery with serious bodily injury, and he served a nine-year prison sentence.⁵ Any new conviction would come with the added weight of being a repeat offender under Florida law.²
