What Is the Lozano Inc Settlement and Who Was Affected?

The Alexandra Lozano lawsuit is a federal civil mass action filed on May 11, 2026, by nine former clients of Alexandra Lozano Immigration Law, PLLC (later rebranded as Luz Legal) in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The case, Sanchez et al. v. Kennedy et al., No. 2:26-cv-01587, accuses Lozano and a network of affiliated companies of running a scheme that filed fraudulent immigration petitions, fabricated abuse declarations, and charged vulnerable immigrants $10,000 to $15,000 for services the complaint calls “illusory, negligent, and even fraudulent.”¹²

Judge Ricardo S. Martinez is presiding. As of mid-June 2026, waivers of service had been filed for most defendants and initial disclosure deadlines were set for early July 2026. No motions to dismiss have been filed.³ The plaintiffs are represented by Aric S. Bomsztyk and Tallman H. Trask IV of Tomlinson Bomsztyk Russ, together with Vicente Omar Barraza of Barraza Law PLLC.¹

What the Complaint Alleges

The complaint brings claims under the federal RICO Act, alleging an organized scheme to defraud clients through fabricated immigration petitions. It also asserts legal malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, violations of the Washington Consumer Protection Act, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and civil conspiracy.¹

According to the plaintiffs and parallel findings by the Washington State Bar Association, the firm:

Filed green card applications for clients regardless of whether they were actually eligible.⁴
Fabricated or exaggerated abuse claims in Violence Against Women Act declarations without clients’ knowledge.⁴
Used non-attorney staff for consultations, delivering “scripted sales pitches” that promised “100% protection” from immigration authorities.²
Determined case strategies through a computer program without review by Lozano or any other licensed attorney.²
Affixed client signatures to immigration forms without letting clients review them.⁵
Failed to inform clients about denied applications or upcoming court hearings.⁴

One named plaintiff, Nora Patricia Murillo Moreno, alleges the firm prepared a declaration on her behalf containing exaggerated and false statements without her knowledge or consent.⁴ A former client interviewed by the Yakima Herald-Republic said she was advised to apply for a T-visa and VAWA benefits despite ineligibility; her husband was deported to Mexico in October 2025 with a 20-year re-entry ban.⁶

Who Is Named as a Defendant

The lawsuit reaches beyond Lozano personally to several affiliated entities she is alleged to have controlled:¹

La Luz del Camino Legal, PLLC (the firm’s current name, Luz Legal).
En Solidaridad, LLC and Salud Total, LLC, which the complaint alleges performed psychological assessments containing false representations of clients’ mental states that were then submitted to immigration officials.
Amiga Lawyers, LLC and Ally Lozano, LLC, which the complaint alleges were used to train other attorneys nationwide to replicate Lozano’s methods, generating over $1.7 million for Lozano between 2019 and 2021.

The plaintiffs’ legal team set up lozanocivilaction.com to connect additional former clients with the case. More than 1,000 people had registered their interest by late May 2026.⁶

Because the firm shut down on June 10, 2026 and said it would monitor incoming USCIS mail for only 30 days, the Washington State Bar Association urged former clients to take several steps immediately:⁷⁸

Refunds from the firm itself are uncertain. The closure announcement said clients whose cases had already been submitted “may not be eligible” for refunds.⁹ The WSBA will no longer accept new grievances against Lozano herself because she is no longer a licensed attorney.⁷ A coalition of more than two dozen attorneys has been consulting with former Lozano clients about their options.⁸

Government Investigations and Green Card Risk

Former clients face a separate risk beyond the civil case: their immigration status. The Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is investigating the firm’s filings.⁶ At least one former client has already received a notice signaling an intent to revoke their green card, and attorneys following the case expect more revocation notices as the government reviews Lozano’s filings.²

The Washington State Attorney General’s Office has been running a pre-litigation investigation since July 2025 into whether the firm engaged in deceptive and unfair business practices.⁹ The Department of Homeland Security has directed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to develop new anti-fraud policies and expand its authority to sanction practitioners accused of filing fraudulent claims.⁵

Lozano’s Resignation, the Firm’s Closure, and Her Response

Alexandra Lozano built one of the largest immigration practices in the country, marketing herself as “abogada de los milagros” — the lawyer of miracles — across Spanish-language television and social media, and running five U.S. offices with back offices in Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina.²⁵ At its peak the firm claimed more than 35,000 active clients, and Lozano’s signature appeared on nearly 54,000 petitions pending before USCIS.⁶

On May 26, 2026, rather than face a Washington State Bar Association disciplinary hearing on an 11-page statement of alleged misconduct, Lozano permanently resigned her law license. The resignation bars her from practicing law in Washington or any other jurisdiction and prohibits her from maintaining any affiliation with the firm she founded.⁷ In her written resignation she denied misconduct but agreed to pay potential restitution.² Luz Legal announced its permanent closure on June 10, 2026.

When the malpractice lawsuit was filed, Lozano said she took the matters seriously and would address them “through appropriate channels.” She defended her 20-year career, saying her work had “consistently centered on advocating for immigrants,” and attributed recent case challenges to shifts in immigration law and adjudication under the current administration.⁴
