The claim filing window for the Wheat Thins class settlement claim form closed on July 7, 2025, and the settlement administrator began issuing payments in January 2026. If you filed on time, your payment is coming by electronic transfer, ACH, or mailed check, depending on how you submitted. If you missed the deadline, no new claims are being accepted.
If You Already Filed a Claim
Payments started going out in January 2026, following the court’s final approval hearing on December 11, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.1Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Wallenstein, et al. v. Mondelez Int’l., Inc., et al.
How you receive payment depends on how you filed. Online claimants could choose electronic payment or ACH transfer. Paper claim forms were eligible only for a mailed check sent to the address on the form.2Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Your Payment Will Be
The amount turns on whether you submitted proof of purchase with your claim.
Without proof of purchase, the payment is a flat $4.50 per household. That figure came from discovery data showing an average consumer bought roughly one box every two months over the five-year class period, at a calculated price premium of $0.15 per box.
With proof of purchase, the payment is $0.15 per unit shown on your receipts, with a minimum of $8.00 and a maximum of $20.00 per household. Claimants whose receipts added up to less than $8.00 of credit still received the $8.00 floor.3Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Notice of Class Action and Proposed Settlement
Only one claim was permitted per household. Multiple submissions from the same household were combined and treated as a single claim.3Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Notice of Class Action and Proposed Settlement
Payments can be reduced if the total value of approved claims exceeded the money left in the $10 million fund after attorney fees, notice and administration costs, and service awards were paid. In that scenario every claimant’s payment drops proportionally.1Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Wallenstein, et al. v. Mondelez Int’l., Inc., et al.
Are These Payments Taxable
Payments in consumer deceptive-labeling settlements like this one are generally treated as a refund of the price premium you overpaid, not as new income. The $0.15-per-box calculation was built to return the premium tied to the “100% Whole Grain” label, which functions as giving back money you overspent.4Internal Revenue Service. Tax Implications of Settlements and Judgments With a $20 maximum per household, a Form 1099 is unlikely and the amount would not materially affect your return even if it were reportable.
If You Missed the July 7, 2025 Deadline
The settlement is no longer accepting new claims. All claim forms had to be submitted online or postmarked by 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2025, and that date was the single, final cutoff.2Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Frequently Asked Questions Late submissions are not being processed, and there is no second filing window.
Because the settlement has received final approval, class members who did not opt out are also bound by its release, meaning you cannot now sue Mondelez individually over the same labeling claims. The opt-out deadline was the same July 7, 2025 date.3Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Notice of Class Action and Proposed Settlement
What the Settlement Was About
The case, Wallenstein, et al. v. Mondelez Int’l., Inc., et al., Case No. 3:22-cv-06033-VC, alleged that Mondelez labeled Wheat Thins crackers as “100% Whole Grain” while the products contained refined grain ingredients. Mondelez agreed to pay $10 million into a settlement fund without admitting wrongdoing.1Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Wallenstein, et al. v. Mondelez Int’l., Inc., et al.
The class period ran from October 13, 2018 through May 9, 2025, and eight varieties were covered:
- Original Wheat Thins
- Reduced Fat Wheat Thins
- Sundried Tomato & Basil Wheat Thins
- Big Wheat Thins
- Ranch Wheat Thins
- Hint of Salt Wheat Thins
- Cracked Pepper & Olive Oil Wheat Thins
- Spicy Sweet Chili Wheat Thins
To qualify, a claimant had to be at least 18, have bought one of the covered products in the United States or U.S. territories during the class period, and have purchased it for personal use rather than for resale.1Wheat Thins Class Settlement. Wallenstein, et al. v. Mondelez Int’l., Inc., et al.
