Bill Cosby is 88 years old, legally blind, and living at his longtime estate in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, where his wife Camille serves as his primary caretaker. Since his release from a Pennsylvania state prison in June 2021, he has stayed largely out of public view, but a growing stack of civil lawsuits has kept him in court. The biggest hit came in March 2026, when a California jury ordered him to pay $59.25 million to a woman who said he drugged and raped her in 1972. If you’re asking where is Bill Cosby now, the short answer is: at home, in failing health, and losing in civil court.
Why He’s Not in Prison
Cosby was convicted in 2018 of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand and sentenced to three to ten years. On June 30, 2021, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned that conviction and ordered him released. The 79-page majority opinion by Justice David Wecht held that a 2005 promise by then-District Attorney Bruce Castor not to prosecute had induced Cosby to give up his Fifth Amendment rights in a parallel civil case, and that using those compelled statements against him later violated due process.1NBC News. The Civil Judgments Against Him
Even with the criminal case closed, Cosby’s legal exposure has grown. More than 60 women have publicly accused him of sexual misconduct dating from the mid-1960s to the late 2000s, and recent state laws creating temporary windows for old sexual assault claims have let many of them sue.3The Washington Post. Judy Huth: $500,000 (2022)
In June 2022, a Los Angeles County jury found Cosby liable for sexually abusing Judy Huth at the Playboy Mansion in 1975, when she was 16. Ten women filed a joint federal suit in Nevada under Senate Bill 129, which lifted the statute of limitations for civil claims involving sexual violence. What He’s Worth
The Motsinger trial produced sharply different pictures of Cosby’s finances. An expert witness for the plaintiff estimated his net worth at roughly $128 million, citing a 650-acre Massachusetts estate, multiple other homes, and an art collection with works by Picasso, Renoir, and Matisse. Cosby, in a deposition, said his net worth had “gone down like a submarine with no motor” and that he had earned no entertainment income in roughly a decade. He sold a Manhattan townhouse in late 2025 for $28 million.15The Washington Times. Bill Cosby’s Net Worth: Disgraced Actor Ordered to Pay $59.25 Million
