What Happened at the Beverly Hills Gold’s Gym
The encounter took place on October 26, 2025, at a Gold’s Gym location that had been acquired by EōS Fitness. Hyman, a 42-year-old Grammy-nominated musician who identifies as a lesbian, recorded the altercation and posted it to social media on November 3, 2025.2The National Desk. Black denied it. Speaking on TMZ Live, she said she had been either clothed or wrapped in a towel throughout her encounters with Hyman and had never been fully exposed.3TMZ. The 2022 Ohio Domestic Violence Conviction
Before her transition, Black was known as Kyle Grant Freeman. In 2022, in Hamilton County, Ohio, she pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony charge of domestic violence for an attack on her then-wife, Alexis Freeman.1New York Post. Why No Charges Were Filed
California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act prohibits businesses from denying full and equal accommodations based on sex, gender, gender identity, or gender expression.8ACLU of Southern California. Rights of Transgender and Nonbinary People at Gyms and Spas Under the law, people have the right to use restrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity, and businesses cannot require proof of gender such as a birth certificate or medical records. That framework is what the gym’s statement about compliance with “state and local laws” referred to.
The case has been compared to the 2021 Wi Spa incident in Los Angeles, where a viral complaint about a transgender woman disrobing led to felony indecent exposure charges against Darren Agee Merager, a registered sex offender, and to violent protests outside the facility.9Los Angeles Times. Political Reaction
The story turned into a flashpoint almost immediately. Libs of TikTok publicized Black’s background on November 6, 2025, using her birth name and calling her a “convicted criminal” with a record of drug trafficking and domestic abuse.6AOL. Hyman later confronted California State Senator Scott Wiener at a public event, asking what he could tell women “seeking assurance that their safety will be protected from men who by California law can self-identify as women in women-only spaces.” Wiener said “we want everyone to be safe” and added that transgender women are “brutalized in this country.”10The National Desk.
